Nokia Lumia 1520 leaks in a yellow color

Rumors of Nokia's 6-inch phablet, the Lumia 1520, have been circling the smartphone space for many months now and a leaked image of the handset shows what it may look like.

Currently, the Lumia 625 is the biggest Windows Phone 8 (WP8) smartphone around and the launch of a bigger device will be welcomed in the highly-competitive phablet market.

Nokia has an array of WP8-powered handsets ranging from entry-level to top-end smartphones. The Finnish company is very aggressive with the launch of new handsets on a regular basis and within this year the company has already launched three top-end smartphones in the U.S. Nokia launched the Lumia 925 and the Lumia 928 back to back in May this year.

The company also launched the long-awaited camera smartphone, the Lumia 1020, in July this year, which is currently exclusive to AT&T in the U.S. The top-end camera capabilities of the Lumia 1020 may attract many smartphone customers who regularly take pictures with their handsets.

Well-known tipster @evleaks has leaked an image of the upcoming Nokia phablet in a yellow avatar. The purported Nokia phablet was previously called Bandit, but @evleaks earlier tweeted that the upcoming device will actually be codenamed Lumia 1520.

Not much is known about the Lumia 1520 but some rumors suggest that the handset will feature a powerful Snapdragon 800 processor and a 20-megapixel primary camera. Speculations also claim that the handset will launch in September this year.

The phablet market is getting very competitive when compared to 2012. Only a handful of smartphone manufacturers made handsets with a display size of over 5-inch in 2012 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 was the unquestionable market leader in 2012.

This year Samsung has already launched the much-awaited Galaxy Note 3, which is due to hit shelves soon. Moreover, Sony has launched the Xperia Z Ultra and HTC is said to be working on bigger version of its flagship handset called the HTC One Max. It will be interesting to see which phablet gets more attention from customers.

Nokia has not confirmed any details of the Lumia 1520 so we will have to wait until the company makes an official announcement.
