Apple Releases Beta Firmware for AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max

Apple developers have been provided with a new beta firmware for AirPods, but further details about the update are yet to be announced.

The new AirPods beta firmware is alleged to revamp the current firmware by adding new features that will enhance users' experience, 9to5 Mac reports.

Apple Is Keeping Details About The Beta Firmware In The Wraps

The multimillion tech company had been providing developers with firmwares to carry out beta updates for AirPods since the Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

Developers are the only ones who can access firmwares, and who can exclusively download them from the Development Center.

However, to do this, the beta requires to be installed on a functional iPhone running on the latest iOS, or a Macbook running on the macOS Ventura beta, and an Xcode 14.

To test the beta firmware update on any AirPod device, an iPhone is necessary and should be connected to a Mac with a Lightning cable, according to Mac Rumors

The Xcode 14 beta should be launched on the Mac, where developers can navigate to the Settings, and choose the Pre-Release Beta Firmware option under the Airpods Testing section.

Once the pre-release testing option is enabled, subsequent updates necessary to run the beta updates will be delivered over the air, Mac Rumors elaborates.

According to Apple, to get the fully realized beta update, it can take up to 24 hours after enabling the pre-release beta option.

Users Noticed The Adaptive Transparency Option Prematurely

Along with the release of iOS 16.1 and beta 3 last week, first generation AirPods users noticed that Apple enabled an update that offers the Adaptive Security Option for AirPods Pro and Max.

Tech Nave says that while the company intended for second generation AirPods users to have a leg up on the first generation version, the premature update was also available for older AirPods.

It is unclear whether these features will be rolled out on older AirPods once beta testing finishes, but Apple immediately removed the option with iOS 16.1, reporting it as bug.

The Adaptive Transparency mode is a new and improved version of the Transparency mode found on AirPods Pro and AirPods Max.

This new mode will be minimizing the scale of loud noises in the background like sirens and power tools to improve the users' experience according to Tech Nave.

This firmware update is available for AirPods 2, AirPods 3, AirPods pro, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Max.

Before this new beta firmware update, the previous firmware, which was available together with the release of iOS 16, had the Personalized Spatial Audio feature.

Together with this, an improved Automatic Switching update was rolled out with added support for higher quality LC3 audio codec.

Earlier this week, Apple also rolled out testing on a beta update for its Safari browsers on iOS and macOS, which was related to the latest iOS 16 update as well.
