Snapchat's New Lenses Have Arrived Just in Time for Halloween: 'Harry Potter, 'Stranger Things,' and More

Snapchat launches new features that lets users find costumes in time for Halloween through its new augmented reality lenses.

Engadget writes that this new set of lenses will give users the option to try on costumes from famous shows in the virtual space.

Shows That Define Pop Culture Are Now In Snapchat's AR

Snapchat's new lenses include a selection of characters and costumes from "Harry Potter," "Squid Game," "Hocus Pocus," "Transformers," "Power Rangers," and many more.

Users of the media sharing application can now purchase these extensions within the app, where they can own the outfits they tried on virtually direct from display.

According to Social Media Today, Snapchat is partnering with Disguise Costumes to facilitate the purchase process, starting October 11.

All of the available AR costume options listed on Snapchat can be found by searching the keywords 'Disguise Costumes,' or by looking for the specific character, movie, or show as well.

Tech Crunch details that should users want to try out the experience, after searching the tab for specific costumes, users will need to take a full-body photo to apply the costumes onto.

After this, the users can save the photo of them in the custome, or directly purchase it within the application.

AR Is Paving The Way For Easier Virtual Shopping Experience

Snap Inc., the owner of Snapchat, reportedly conducted a study with Ipsos, and found that people use AR mainly for shopping.

Ipsos found that AR shopping is preferred by 92% of Gen Z users, and that 47% of Snapchat's users plan to shop for Halloween costumes with 31% of whom would do it online.

According to Ad Week, Snap Inc. shared that the National Retail Federation (NRF) reported that consumer spending on Halloween is expected at an all-time high of $10.6 billion in 2022.

The NRF also believes that the Halloween spending consumers are willing to pay for costumes might reach a record level of $2.9 billion projected sales.

Ad Week says that this might kickstart a good sales trajectory for Snapchat as the timing for the integration of augmented reality shopping on Snapchat could not have come at a greater time.

Engadget claims that more companies and retailers have started offering augmented reality tools to try on the clothes in the virtual realm.

For instance, Amazon has also adapted a Virtual Try-On feature for shoes, while Pinterest and Google have used AR to let users try on makeup, apparel, and accessories, Tech Crunch says.

In recent years, the AR try-on features on Snapchat had been expanding, and had been launched to connect with the AR Lens experience since August.

However, this specific launch is seasonal and topical with a tie-in on costume option for the upcoming Halloween.

With this, it is expected that Snapchat will also launch similar seasonal lines, facilitating direct display and shopping for possible upcoming campaigns.

Beginning on Tuesday, Snapchat users can now use the new try on technology, and buy costumes from popular shows of their beloved characters.

Aside from the movies and series mentioned before, pop culture fans can also enjoy dressing up as characters from "Chucky," "Cobra Kai," "Ghostbusters," and "Hocus Pocus."
