How to Fix the 'Cannot Be Used' Error

Since Tuesday, there have been Apple card users getting a "this card cannot be used" error in the Wallet app.

Users claimed that when they open their Apple Card in the Wallet app on iPhone, the transaction history is missing.

As of writing, it is unknown how many Apple card users are affected by the issue. It is also unclear if only certain iOS versions are affected by the error. No further detail was provided by Apple regarding the ongoing Apple card problem.

Despite this, the good news is there's a workaround available to solve the problem, according to Apple Insider.

  • To fix the Apple card "cannot be used" error, simply open Wallet and click on the Apple card.
  • If you are one of the affected users, you should see text under the card that says, "This card cannot be used."
  • Once you see the text, the next step that you should do is to tap the Remove Card button.
  • Afterwards all you have to do is re-add the card by tapping the Plus Button in the upper-right corner. Once you're done with the previous step, select Previous Cards.
  • Onscreen instructions should appear. Simply follow the instructions, and you should be able to add a credit card to Apple Pay.

According to Apple, once the card is re-added, transaction history should reappear. This means that despite being an annoying glitch, the error is relatively harmless.

Apple Card is a Simple, Smarter Credit Card

Apple released Apple Card in August 2019. "Linked to Apple Pay and built right into the Wallet app," Apple boasted that it's a "simpler, smarter credit card."

Apple partnered with Goldman Sachs to bring the card to the users, as per a separate article by MacRumors. Despite being optimized for ‌Apple Pay, the Apple card‌ also functions like a traditional credit card. You can still use it for all of your transactions.

It's very easy to sign up for Apple Card. It only takes a couple of minutes to set up the card since the information needed to sign up is taken from your Apple ID.

Signing up to get an Apple card requires basic information such as first and last name, date of birth, phone number, home address, country of citizenship, the last four digits of your Social Security number, and your annual income.

You can immediately use your Apple card after you sign up. However, just like a regular, it is still subjected to approval.

Apple boasted on its website that the card "can do lots of things no other credit card can do."
