Capcom Releases Third-Person Mode Demo of Resident Evil Village — Here’s What You Need To Know

Resident Evil Village fans who want to try out the game in a third-person camera can now do so for a limited time.

Capcom announced in its recent Resident Evil Showcase online event that it would be releasing a demo for its latest entry in its Resident Evil franchise to try out its new third-person mode.

The feature was previously announced during the announcement of the game's Gold Edition and the Winters' Expansion, which featured scenes of game protagonist Ethan Winters fighting lycans in a third-person over-the-shoulder camera.

Resident Evil Village Third-Person Mode Demo Details

Capcom mentioned in its Resident Evil Showcase online event that it would be releasing a demo of Resident Evil Village to try out the game's third-person mode.

Gamers who wish to try it out can do so now; Capcom released the demo on Oct. 21 at 12 am BST.

The demo comes with two camera perspective choices to choose from: the game's native first-person mode and the new third-person over-the-shoulder mode, so that players can see the differences between the two and for them to choose which perspective they prefer to have during gameplay.

However, Capcom has placed a one-hour limit in the demo to experience the game in third-person over-the-shoulder mode, though the entire game is playable during the demo.

As such, players new to the game should expect to get a taste of what the game has to offer while speedrunners can try to finish the game using the new camera perspective in under an hour, per IGN.

Kento Kinoshita, Resident Evil Village's director, mentioned to IGN in an earlier report that developing the game's third-person mode was like creating a new game, and that it has "a very different experience when played in third-person."

"compared to the previous games in the series, Resident Evil Village has an exceptionally large variety of player actions," Kinoshita said. "We made thorough adjustments to ensure that those unique animations would look completely connected, and that it would be playable at a good tempo."

The Man With The Missing(?) Face

Fans of Resident Evil 7  and Village are largely aware that they can't see Ethan's face due to the first-person camera perspective featured in the games.

As such, Ethan's face can only be seen outside of the game's confines, such as YouTube videos and in the game's files, which are only accessible when not playing the game.

With the addition of third-person mode, many Village fans thought they could now see the face of Ethan Winters in-game.

Unfortunately, Kinoshita said that Ethan's face would still be hidden even while in third-person mode. According to Polygon's report, Kinoshita mentioned that instead of showing his face to the camera, Ethan would look away, hiding his face from players who wish to see it while playing the game.

Fortunately, the Gold Edition's third-person mode can also be used with the Shadows of Rose campaign, allowing players to see Rose's face for themselves during the game.
