Amazon Kindle Fire HD 2 leaks - Launch imminent?

Rumors have been rife that Amazon is gearing up to launch the next-gen Kindle Fire soon and now a leaked render of the impending device has surfaced online.

The latest leak is courtesy of well-known leakster @evleaks, who posted the image of the upcoming Amazon tablet on Twitter.

"Another upcoming Kindle," tweeted @evleaks.

Generally @evleaks has a good track record when it comes to outing yet-to-be-announced devices and he could be on the money with the Amazon tablet as well.

While most next-gen devices improve on the predecessor, contrary to previous rumors that hinted at top-end specs for the second-gen Amazon tablet, the leaked image seems to suggest that the upcoming Kindle Fire 2 will not be much of an improvement.

The leaked image is quite unimpressive, showing off what seems to be the entry-level Kindle Fire 2 and not the top-end variant. The image shows a device with large bezels and if this is the real deal, it is unlikely that consumers will be enticed by the second-gen Kindle Fire, which is expected to rival the new Nexus 7 from Google.

Earlier in August, a GFXBench entry for an unknown Amazon tablet codenamed Apollo/KFAPWA had popped up online, fueling speculation that e-retailer had a second-gen Kindle Fire HD tablet in the works.

Moreover, we reported that Amazon had dropped the price of its Kindle Fire HD tablet, suggesting that it was looking to clear out older inventory to make space for newer devices.

Previously, reports have suggested that the new 7-inch Kindle Fire HD will tout a new design and have a better display with 1920 x 1200 pixels resolution. It is also expected to be Wi-Fi-enabled and pack 2GB of RAM, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and a secondary camera.

The next-gen 7-inch Kindle Fire HD 2 is also speculated to be reasonably priced so as to retain its popularity with consumers. Amazon is expected to launch its new line-up of Kindle tablets in fall, likely in September. However, with the e-retailer staying mum, we will have to wait for an official announcement.
