TELUS HTC One will get Android 4.3 Jelly Bean by September end

Canadian carrier TELUS confirmed that the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for its HTC One will arrive in September end.

Google launched its Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system in July this year and only a handful of devices, including Nexus smartphones and tablets, are running on the latest Jelly Bean flavor.

"According to TELUS' 'Upcoming software updates schedule' the all-aluminum beauty is expected to shed the older version of Jelly Bean in favour of OS 4.3. TELUS states that testing is currently in progress and we can expect it to be available for download sometime 'Late-September' - basically any day now," reports Mobile Syrup.

Some select international variants of the HTC One received the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean software update, but customers on individual carriers are still waiting to get a firmware update on their handsets.

Previously, HTC President Jason Mackenzie tweeted that HTC One Developer Edition will skip Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update and will get the Android 4.3 update instead. Mackenzie also confirmed in a tweet that all HTC One and Droid DNA handsets in the U.S. and Canada will also get Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

"Lots of questions re 4.3 release for One. We r wrking hard (needs cert) to release 4.3 across all US, Canada skus by end Sept. DNA as well," tweeted Mackenzie about a month ago.

Even though Android 4.2 Jelly Bean was launched in the second half of 2012, the HTC One (released in April this year) comes pre-loaded with the Android 4.1 version of the operating system. This prompted questions as to why the handset didn't come with the then-latest Jelly Bean and why it didn't receive a software update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean in all regions.

However, Mackenzie also tweeted back in August that because Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is a minor update and offered customers only limited benefits, HTC One smartphones will receive Android 4.3 Jelly Bean instead.

As TELUS has confirmed the release of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for its HTC One, we hope that other carriers in Canada (as well as in the U.S.) confirm the release of the latest Jelly Bean flavor for their versions of the HTC One.
