Nokia Lumia owners in India can finally rejoice, as Nokia has started pushing out the much-awaited Amber update for the Lumia 520, Lumia 620 and Lumia 720 smartphones in the region.
In August, the owners of Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 had received the Amber update and now it's time for owners of the Lumia 520, Lumia 620 and Lumia 720 to get the same treatment.
According to the Nokia support page, the Amber software update is now available for download on all three of the above-mentioned smartphones in India.
"Nokia is continuing its roll-out of Lumia Amber software update for all its Lumia devices around the world. Last month, Nokia released Amber update for Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820 devices. Today, Nokia has released Amber update for Nokia Lumia 520, Lumia 620 and Lumia 720 devices," reports WMPoweruser.
India is among the few countries to have benefited from the Amber update, as several regions in Europe and Canada are yet to receive the software. In August, Nokia had urged fans to "be patient" and said that all WP8 devices would receive the Amber update by September-end.
"To ensure the software update meets our quality standards, we're running multiple tests with various country variants and operators. We make the updates available to you as soon as we complete testing. With Lumia Amber we expect to have the update arriving in all Lumia Windows Phone 8 phones by the end of September. Be patient - it's coming!" noted the Nokia Conversations blog at the time.
For the uninitiated, the Lumia Amber update builds on Microsoft's General Distribution Release 2 (GDR2) update. The Amber update brings new features such Glance Screen, FM Radio, flip-to-silence, Nokia Smart Cam and enhanced camera performance.
However, some Nokia Lumia smartphones will miss certain features. The Lumia 520 and Lumia 620, for instance, will not get Double Tap to unlock. Moreover, the Lumia 620 will not get the FM Radio feature either. The company has also disclosed that the Nokia Pro Camera will not come to non-PureView handsets as it "is a high-end imaging application that requires a lot from both hardware and software." To check if you've received the Amber update on your Lumia 520/Lumia 620/Lumia 720, go to Settings > Phone update > Check for updates.
