Spotify Wrapped 2022 Reveals This Year’s Top Songs, Podcasts, Listening Trends

Spotify has named the best of the best for the year 2022.

The popular audio streaming company recently revealed the songs, artists, and podcasts people have been listening to the most all year round, as well as the listening trends people have been enjoying in 2022.

Spotify said these songs, artists, podcasts, and listening trends helped people refine how they find joy in the app in a blog post.

Spotify Wrapped 2022 Details

Spotify named global recording artist Bad Bunny the most-streamed artist globally on Spotify, keeping his record going for the third year since he won it in 2020. To celebrate Bud Bunny's three-peat, Spotify turned its heart button into the signer's custom red-heart icon based on the one featured in his fourth solo album, "Un Verano Sin Ti."

Bad Bunny isn't the only achiever during 2022. Taylor Swift is the second-most-streamed artist in 2022 worldwide next to Bad Bunny, with her being the top artist in Australia, the UK, Ireland, Malaysia, the Philippines, New Zealand, Qatar, Slovenia, and Singapore.

You may remember that Spotify went down due to the many Swifties rushing to the app to listen to Swift's new album "Midnights" on its release day. At the time, Downdetector reported that 7,844 outages had been reported worldwide on Oct. 21 at 1:10 AM EDT.

Following Swift, Spotify named Toronto, Canada artists Drake and The Weeknd the third and fourth most-streamed artists in the world, while K-Pop Band BTS took fifth place.

However, things are different in Spotify Wrapped 2022's most viral artist worldwide category, wherein Taylor Swift is named the most viral artist on Spotify in 2022, followed by The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, BTS, and Lana Del Rey.

As for the winners of the top global albums of 2022, Bad Bunny takes first place again, making his "Un Verano Sin Ti" album the most-streamed album in the world. On the other hand, Harry Styles' album, "Harry's House," takes second place, while Olivia Rodrigo's "SOUR" and Ed Sheeran's "=" take third and fourth places, respectively.

Last but not least is Doja Cat's album "Planet Her," taking fifth place in the category.

For the most popular podcasts of 2022, controversial podcaster Joe Rogan has his "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast coming out at first place, while Alex Cooper's "Call Her Daddy" takes second.

"Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlain" and Elisa Aldunate's "Caso 63" podcast takes third and fourth, respectively.

Finally, Ashley Flowers' and Brit Prawat's "Crime Junkies" podcast takes fifth place in the category.

Spotify also found that 2022's listening trends focus on nostalgia, with the most streamed throwback albums and songs being Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP" and Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)," respectively.

Music Personality

In addition to the year round-up, Spotify is also giving users the "music personality" feature that analyzes how they listen to songs and assigns one of 16 possible categories through a Myers-Briggs-esque system, per The Verge.

These categories include The Adventurer, The Fanclubber, The Specialist, and The Replayer. These categories also come with descriptions that probably describe how a user listens to songs on the platform, kind of like a personality test.

Spotify uses four metrics to determine a user's "music personality," which include: Familiarity vs. Exploration; Loyalty vs. Variety; Timelessness vs. Newness; and Commonality vs. Uniqueness, per a separate Spotify blog post.
