Apple's Battery Replacement Service for Older iPhone Models is Getting a Price Increase

Apple has announced a price increase for its battery replacements. What was previously $69 will gain an additional $20 starting this March of 2023. This will apply to all phones with out-of-warranty battery service aside from the iPhon3 14.

Get Your Batteries Replaced While Its Cheaper

The iPhone 14 line is exempted from the price increase only because it already costs $99 dollars for a battery replacement. Models from the iPhone X to iPhone 13 will are charged $69 for now for the battery service. Older models like iPhone SE or below will only be charged $49.

Should you need to bring your phone in for service, you can have it done at Apple retail locations by heading to their Genius Bars. You can also opt for the mail-in service online by sending your device for repair directly to Apple, according to 9To5Mac.

If you want, Apple also has an option where you won't have to leave your home at all. An authorized Apple service provider can come to your home or office once you schedule an on-site service for your phone.

You can go for the self-service repair option for battery repair using components from Apple, but it will cost you the same when you have it repaired by Apple's staff. The self-service repair may also be subjected to a price increase this March.

Free Repair Depending on the Circumstances

You can have your phone battery replaced or repaired for free given that you fit within the conditions set by Apple. If your battery holds less than 80 percent of its original capacity, then you can bring it in for a free repair.

This also goes for people who have AppleCare+. However, Apple will not provide free service, repair, or replacements for batteries that have been worn down through normal use. You can get an estimate on Apple's website depending on which phone you're bringing in for service.

Apple's warranty covers iPhones or other Apple accessories that come with the box, should you experience manufacturing issues within the year that you bought the product. There is a different warranty service for accessories bought separately like adapters, cables, cases, and more.

If you have an AppleCare plan, you have guaranteed service from the company for 90 days, or until your AppleCare or Apple warranty has expired. The repair or replacement service that Apple provides may be new or previously used, though they are tested first to prove functionality.

Take Better Care of Your Battery

There are many ways to prolong your iPhone's battery life. For starters, you can avoid maximizing your charge cycles. Your battery should be between 40% to 80% as much as you can to preserve your battery's health.

You can also turn off unused features to minimize battery consumption. These include Location Settings, Bluetooth, Background App Refresh, push notifications, and so on, as suggested by Make Use Of.

Don't let overkill your batteries by letting them drain completely before charging, or letting them stay plugged in even if the battery is already at 100%. Overcharging means that you're subjecting your battery to more current than it can hold.
