Apple Might Introduce New Macs That Will Require Wi-Fi 6E Support

The next generation of the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro, which is now powered by the quicker M2 Pro and M2 Max CPUs, has been revealed by Apple on Tuesday.

A few programs will need to be updated in order to properly use the new Wi-Fi technology, which is also included in the new laptops for the first time on a Mac.

What Is Changing With The New Wi-Fi 6E

For those who are not familiar, Wi-Fi 6E is a new version of Wi-Fi that not only allows faster speeds but also lower latency and, more crucially, less interference.

This is due to the fact that Wi-Fi 6E uses a special frequency that is far larger than the spectrums used by earlier generations of Wi-Fi.

In other words, Wi-Fi 6E enables connections to much quicker and more reliable networks, 9to5 Mac writes.

It can be remembered that the 2022 iPad Pro with the M2 processor was the first Apple product to support Wi-Fi 6E.

With the introduction of the new MacBook Pro and Mac mini in 2023, which also support the new Wi-Fi standard, Apple has now increased support for this technology.

The Cupertino tech giant even claims that the new Wi-Fi standard is "twice as fast as the previous generation."

However, while Wi-Fi 6E's quicker speeds and lower latency will benefit all apps, some specific macOS tools will need an upgrade to support the new technology.

Adrian Granados, a developer and co-founder of Intuitibits, has noticed that the present version of macOS lacks the frameworks necessary for third-party apps to utilize the new Wi-Fi 6E interface.

The popular WiFi Explorer app, which enables users to learn in-depth information about all the Wi-Fi networks around, was created by Intuitibits as well, Mac Rumors notes.

Wi-Fi 6E will now be available to consumers in Japan, where the technology is currently unavailable due to national constraints, according to a confirmation from Apple.

What Else Is There To Look Out For In The New MacBooks

Apple has unveiled its new M2 Pro and M2 Max CPUs, which were thought to be coming in the very near future in new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini PCs.

The new models, which are now available for ordering and will begin shipping next week, will be up to 40% faster and have better battery life.

The 10- or 12-core M2 Pro CPU, which includes eight high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores, is the latest entry-level processor.

According to a report by Engadget, it improves performance over the 10-core M1 Pro CPU by up to 20%.

The new MacBook Pro 14- and 16-inch variants are reportedly identical in appearance to their predecessors.

However, they deliver significantly better speed and, in the case of the M2 Max model, up to an astounding 96GB of unified memory.

An HDMI connector that supports 4K screens up to 240Hz and 8K displays up to 60Hz is another new feature that these units have.

Starting at $1,999 for the MacBook Pro with M2 Pro and $2,499 for the 16-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro, the new MacBook Pro models are now available for preorder from Apple and other stores.
