AirDrop Bug on macOS Ventura is Causing Issues for Dropbox Files

Users from the cloud platform have been voicing out their concerns with the bug that has affected AirDrops in macOS Ventura. They claim that the feature no longer works with Dropbox files after the new update for the Dropbox app for Mac.

Complaints from Users

Based on the complaints, the AirDrop bug has been caused by the latest versions of the macOS app, which resulted in users not being able to send or receive files via the feature. One user lost some files permanently after deleting the original files thinking the AirDrop was successful.

The user specified that they were running Dropbox 162.4.519, and is using the macOS Monterey 12.4, as mentioned in 9To5Mac. One claimed that disabling the backups of their downloads folder fixed the problem.

Dropbox user LJ123 posted an extensive comment claiming that Dropbox was moving their main folders like Documents, Desktop, and Downloads to a different location on the local disk. They also said that disabling the machine backup should fix the AirDrop issue.

They warned that the files should be kept on the computer itself and not only in the cloud platform. Otherwise, all the files contained in the backup will be deleted. Despite disabling the feature, the problems still remain, as mentioned in the Dropbox Forum.

The Downloads folder was still out of place, so the file-sharing feature still didn't work. In order to correct it, the user had to go to Finder where two Downloads can be found in the left pane of their Finder window. They noted that only one of the two was the actual folder.

The folder clone will be empty and the original Downloads folder will have your files in it, says LJ123. They said that users will have to delete the clone folder and set the original folder back to Favorites in the left pane. The same process goes for the Dock Bar.

Only then did AirDrop work again for the user, and added that Dropbox broke it and have no idea how to fix the AirDrop issue. Others had to resort to more drastic measures like deleting Dropbox and reinstalling their Ventura software before AirDrop worked again.

Dropbox is Working on Other Fixes

Dropbox support for macOS was previously broken due to internal system changes in Apple. However, the platform announced that it will be launching an update that will fix the issue soon enough, according to its website.

The latest version of Dropbox that's about to be released for macOS will be utilizing Apple's updated File Provider API. It will fix other issues such as opening online-only files in third-party applications on macOS 12.5 or higher.

The announcement also mentioned that the update is more integrated with Apple's operating system, as it comes with changes that meet the requirements of macOS. The changes can be seen by users between now to the end of May this year.
