5 Things You Probably Didn’t Know about the History of Discord

Have you ever considered that it might be nice to be able to quickly connect with others who share your interests, even if that connection is forged primarily through online engagement? If so, know that you are not alone.

In point of fact, there are a great number of individuals who have the exact same aspirations. That is exactly how the server known as Discord came into being. If you're not already familiar with it, it's an app that, according to its description, makes it possible for you to connect with people from all over the world who share the same interests as you do. That sounds fascinating, even if it is a little bit suspicious at the same time. Chances are, it has piqued your interest.

If you're interested in learning more, consider the following five facts about the company.

1. In The Beginning, They Served Primarily As A Means Of Communication Between Avid Gamers

When the company first began, it catered primarily to serious gamers by providing a means for them to communicate with one another from all over the globe. These days, you can find an online discussion group on just about any topic imaginable. They've been around for a while, but they've managed to completely revamp their image without sacrificing what made them famous in the first place.

2. They Opened Their Doors For Business In The Year 2015

It's interesting to note that despite the fact that they've been in business since 2015, a lot of people still haven't heard of the online communication platform known as Discord.

They even provided customers with a sneak peek of their services the year before they officially launched their website. Despite the fact that they have been well-known in certain communities for a considerable amount of time, it is only relatively recently that they have begun to garner widespread attention.

In spite of the fact that finally, more and more people are starting to take notice of them, it is still a very long way from being on the same level as Twitter or Instagram. Having said that, there is every possibility that they could eventually achieve that status, particularly if they continue going in the direction that they are currently headed. This is especially true if they continue going in the direction that they are currently headed.

3. The Company's Operations Are Carried Out In A Variety Of Languages

Given that their mission is to bring people together from all over the world, it is probably not surprising that they conduct business in a number of different languages. As a consequence of this, they are able to conduct business in the current total of 28 distinct languages, and they are continuously adding more.

Why do they conduct business in such a large number of different languages? This can be attributed to primarily two different factors. As was stated earlier, the first reason is due to the fact that they conduct business on a global scale. The second reason is that they want to be able to bring people together from various geographic areas who share similar interests. These people would benefit from meeting one another.

That is something that can only be accomplished if their program is compatible with a wide variety of language options. After all, in order to have a meaningful conversation with someone who lives in a completely different region of the world, a person from Canada would need to be able to overcome the obstacle of not being able to communicate in their native tongue.

The software that Discord employs gives them the ability to do precisely that. When you are interacting with the system, you will have the option of conversing in either your mother tongue or another language that you have studied.

You can converse with someone who does not speak the same language as you by using their system to convert one language into another. In the same vein, you can talk to someone who does not speak the same language as you even though you do.

4. The Company Promotes Itself As "Like A Group Chat, But More Specific"

The company does not deny that its core functionality is similar to that of any other program that makes use of a group chat platform; however, they highlight a crucial distinction. They're picky about which chat rooms, or servers, their users can join. In a typical chat room, everyone is just kind of dumped into the same room at the same time, and you sit there hoping that you might be able to strike up a conversation with someone.

The Discord system is unique in that anyone interested in, say, dog training can easily locate a chat room dedicated to the topic. Instead of being dumped into a massive virtual room with tens of thousands of other people, you will be placed directly in a chat room where you can talk to other people who have the exact same interests as you.

5. They Rely On Tried And True Technological Methods

Signing up for something like this only to find out it uses unstable technology is a major source of frustration. Thankfully, Discord is not one of those tools. In fact, they employ a technique commonly known as "low latency." Essentially, it's just a fancy term for tried-and-true technology that continues to function when everything else fails.

In a world where more and more people are using social media as their primary means of communication, it's comforting to know you have alternatives if you're unable to reach someone through conventional channels.
