Uber Eats' 'View As Delivery Person' Lets Users Select Which Personal Details To Show Couriers

On Wednesday, Uber Eats launched an app feature in the US and Canada to increase transparency on the frequency and mode of couriers viewing customer information.

According to Restaurant Dive, customers can view what data the delivery driver has access to at each stage of the order process by choosing "View as Delivery Person."

The New Feature Shows What Info Delivery Couriers Can See And Not See

Users will be able to discover what personal information a courier can see at each step of the delivery process the next time they order something from Uber Eats with its new update.

It is important to note that the View as Driver feature was implemented by Uber in 2020 and is followed by the View as Delivery Person feature.

The recent order page and the privacy center within the app's privacy option on the account tab are now accessible to US and Canadian customers of Uber Eats.

The concept is that the Uber Eats app will display information about you that a delivery person has before they pick up your meal, during the delivery, and after.

Simply put, until they pick up the order, the delivery person will only have an approximation of the delivery location, Engadget writes.

The user's first name, the first letter of their last name, and the precise delivery location will then usually be available to them.

It usually gives delivery instructions and notes when couriers deliver orders, and then the app returns to merely displaying their estimated delivery location after they complete the service.

Additionally, the feature would inform users of the information couriers are unable to see, such as their phone number, payment information, or driver rating.

Moreover, users must share a photo of their ID as proof of age if they want to order goods like marijuana or alcohol through Uber Eats.

Uber Eats Says That The Feature Was Rolled Out To Address Customer Safety

According to Uber's head of privacy and equity product Zach Singleton, the goal of this feature is to provide users more confidence and transparency.

Thousands of support tickets from customers who are inquisitive or concerned about how much information their driver knows about them are submitted to Uber, according to Singleton.

This is especially true for women, according to Singleton, who found that when anything uncomfortable happens.

As per a report by The Verge, women are 53 percent more likely to be concerned about the information delivery personnel may have, making safety a critical concern for the company.

Singleton believes that by easing users' concerns about using Uber Eats, more orders from its restaurant partners will be placed.

Uber also says that the company is working to make a safer environment for both consumers and drivers in part through View as a Delivery Person.

It can be remembered that in order to give couriers quick access to emergency assistance, Uber last year developed a new Safety ToolKit for drivers and riders.
