Meta Verified Prevents People From Changing Names, Usernames, or Profile Photos

People getting Meta Verified may want to read the conditions carefully.

The California-based tech giant recently announced that people who wish to get its "verified" blue check mark can't make changes to their profile, at least for the time being.

Twitter previously enacted similar restrictions in its Twitter Blue subscription, which verifies people's identity while giving them first dibs on the platform's new features.

Meta Verified Subscription Restriction Details

Meta mentioned in a blog post that its Verified subscription will have restrictions that would prevent people from impersonating others. These restrictions include changes to their profile name, username, date of birth, and to their profile picture.

Those who do were already verified but changed something from the previously mentioned information would have to go through the Meta Verified subscription and verifications application process again.

Unfortunately, people who wish to be verified but have accounts that use a pseudonym can't subscribe to the verification service as Meta only supports real names on profiles in the meantime. For these people to be verified, they need to change the name and profile picture featured on the account to their real name and face, respectively.

Thankfully, a Meta spokesperson mentioned to Tech Crunch that the company is working on a "fast follow feature" that lets users change any of the previously mentioned profile information through a verification process without needing to cancel the subscription.

Meta previously announced its Meta Verified subscription service to combat impersonation and increase the authenticity and security of their services.

Not everyone on Meta's social media platforms can subscribe to the service, though. People who wish to subscribe to the service need to be 18 years old or above and have a photo of their government ID that should match their profile photo on Facebook or Instagram.

They should also need to have two-factor authentication active along with recent activity on their profile, such as posting content.

Meta announced it would publish detailed requirements on how to sign up for the subscription plan when Verified launches within the week.

Meta Verified Benefits

Meta mentioned that those who sign up for its Meta Verified subscription service get a verified badge confirming their identity and that their account is authenticated with a government ID.

This authentication means that impersonators will have a difficult time pretending they're them without arousing suspicion from their victims.

Verified subscribers also get access to a real person for common account issues rather than being redirected to Meta Support, for example.

Subscribers can look forward to increased visibility and reach on Meta's social media platforms, allowing their accounts to appear first on people's recommendations. Their comments will also appear first before people without a blue check mark.

However, this increased visibility may vary depending on their existing audience size and the topic of their posts. As such, Verified subscribers with a smaller following may see a more noticeable impact on their reach since their audience is smaller.

Last but not least, Verified subscribers get exclusive features to express themselves in "unique ways."
