5 Essential Tips You Need for Spring Cleaning

Spring is officially here, and if astronomers are correct, it's been a few days since it started.

While the sun's warmth is welcome for many of us, there is no more excuse to hold off what everyone dreads doing after winter: spring cleaning.

Thankfully, here are some tips you may want to remember so you can clean your home safely and efficiently.

Protect Yourself

Cleaning a whole room, let alone a whole house is a dirty and messy business. Expect a lot of dust, spills, and odors that won't agree with your nose.

Regardless if you have dust allergy, you'll want to protect yourself from those, as well as chemicals that won't do any favors for your hands. Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands from chemicals, face masks for the dust, hairnets to keep your hair dust-free and even scarves.

Just remember that you'll need all the mobility and flexibility you can get to properly clean your house. Your goal is to clean, not model for a spring break apparel fashion show.

Use a HEPA Vaccum

Using a vacuum is a great way to get the cleaning done faster, but a broom also gets the job done if you don't have one. However, what these two have in common is they kick up a lot of dust - even a vacuum cleaner can do that, even if it sucks dust and dirt off objects.

They kick more than dust, though. If you don't wear a face mask, the allergens, pet dander, and other household particles will make you wish you did.

To avoid that, use a HEPA vacuum when cleaning your house. It has powerful suction and sealed filtration systems - perfect for allergy sufferers.

If you don't have a HEPA vacuum, either use a face mask while cleaning or a vacuum with attachments like dusting brushes and hoses to better catch dust with than using just the nozzle.

Go Green

With technological advancements in cleaning, using chemicals to clean a house (or anything, for that matter) will soon become a thing of the past. Fewer chemicals involved means you are in safer hands; mixing chemicals without supervision is never good, especially for the environment.

While it may be a long way to go chemical-free during spring cleaning, there are some things you can clean without them. For instance, a steam cleaner, which only uses water vapor, will help you clean your microwave, tiles, hard floors, kitchen appliances, and even outdoor areas.

If you don't have something like that on hand, you want to try mixing white distilled vinegar, baking soda, and water - a non-toxic mixture that always works wonders when it comes to cleaning. Just get used to the smell for some time.

Delegate And Multitask

iRobot has introduced its new Roomba Combo j7+, which can intelligently vacuum and mop floors in a single cleaning mission.

Spring cleaning while alone is not as fun as it could be if it's done with others. That sense of camaraderie andseeing things get done without you is one way to finish the job faster and more efficiently.

However, not everyone has friends or family that can help you clean your house, at least not on a whim. For that, it's best to delegate some of your tasks to a Roomba that can clean the floor, carpet, and similar surfaces while you multitask on the things that could be done.

Go At Your Own Pace

Last but not least, go at your own pace. While prioritizing what to clean is all well and good, at the end of the day, you're only human. You need rest as much as a machine needs downtime to prolong its life.

Speaking of, you could also motivate yourself to clean better by doing something nice during your downtime, like helping yourself to some ice cream to reward yourself or a drink of your favorite soda.
