Samsung’s 2023 Neo QLED TVs Gets Carbon Footprint Certification

Samsung's newest TVs are now certified as environmentally friendly.

The South-Korea based tech giant recently announced that some of its 2023 Neo QLED lineups had received the "Reducing C02" certification from the Carbon Trust.

The Carbon Trust is a global climate consultancy the UK government founded to respond to climate change and reduce greenhouse gases (GHG).

Samsung mentioned in its announcement that six models of its 2023 Neo QLED TVs acquired the Reducing CO2 certification from the Carbon Trust, acknowledging Samsung's efforts to enhance sustainability throughout its entire product lifecycle.

For those unaware, the Carbon Trust only awards its Reducing C02 certification to products that don't create too many GHG emissions, per the Trust's official website. When it comes to business-to-consumer products like Samsung's new Neo QLED TVs, this inspection starts from the extraction of the raw materials and the manufacturing needed to make it to its distribution, use, and eventual disposal.

To calculate the carbon footprint a company has to create a certain product to qualify for the certification, the Trust evaluates the number of GHGs from production to disposal based on internationally recognized standards.

As to how Samsung acquired such a certification, the company mentioned that it reduced the TVs' weight and their power consumption when consumers use them, giving it a smaller carbon footprint compared to its predecessors, per The Korea Herald. These TVs include three Neo QLED 8K TVs and three Neo QLED 4K TVs.

Samsung doesn't want to stop with its 2023 Neo QLED TVs, though. The company wanted to expand the scope of its carbon footprint-reducing efforts to earn the Reducing C02 certification for more than 20 models across its latest lineup of QLED, Crystal UHD, and OLED TVs before 2023 ends.

The tech giant also wants to get the certification for its five monitors and signage products.

Seokwoo Yong, Samsung's Executive Vice President and Deputy Head of Visual Display Business, mentioned that it's rewarding to see an internationally recognized group acknowledge the company's sustainability mission. "As the world's largest TV manufacturer, we recognize our responsibility to lead by example and will continue to leverage technology to drive positive change," Yong said.

They also mentioned that Samsung remains committed to creating products with the future of the planet as its top priority.
