Silent Hill 2 Remake Could Use Technology Seen in the Medium

Konami's Silent Hill 2 Remake may have something up its sleeve to improve gameplay.

The game's developer, Bloober Team, could use its patented technology to develop the much-awaited game, which could help recapture the original game's psychological horror and visual atmosphere.

Konami's Silent Hill 2 Remake is slotted for release sometime in 2023, according to Comicbook Gaming.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Development Details

Silent Hill 2's upcoming remake has fans of the series excited and anxious for when the game will come out; it has been 22 years since the release of the original game and 11 years since the last true Silent Hill game, titled Silent Hill: Downpour, per The Gamer.

Many have been speculating on what the game and its gameplay would look like once it's been released, and one of them is a Twitter user going by the username @bobvids. He quote tweeted a post from @RinoTheBouncer that summarizes why the remake is happening and what gamers could expect from it.

According to the tweet, gamers can look forward to an immersive over-the-shoulder camera that lets them appreciate the game's graphics thanks to it being developed on Unreal Engine 5. The game also has improved combat mechanics, and, most importantly, it wouldn't stray too far from the original game.

However, Rino did mention that Bloober Team managed to wow Konami with its concept for the remake, which focused on recapturing the original game's visceral atmosphere. According to bobvid, this reaction from Konami could be due to Bloober Team's dual-reality technology, which it patented and used in one of its previous games, titled The Medium.

For those unaware, The Medium is a psychological horror game much like Silent Hill 2 that features Bloober Team's dual-reality technology, which has players finding themselves playing in either of two worlds or within both simultaneously, through a split screen to "ensure variety and surprise," per the game's lead game designer Wojciech Piejko and Game Rant.

Should Boober Team use its dual-reality technology on Silent Hill 2, it could offer unique situations where players must consider where they are in one reality to navigate their way through another.

This theory could be true since Silent Hill 2 Remake's minimum specs on PC are "weirdly high" and almost on par with the requirements for The Medium.

Silent Hill 2 Details

There's not much to tell about the upcoming Silent Hill 2 Remake despite the hype for it and it being the remake of the most popular Silent Hill game in the series. However, there are tidbits of information scattered here and there for gamers to find.

For starters, the game is indeed developed using Unreal Engine 5 and features an over-the-shoulder camera with an entirely rebuilt combat system, per Konami producer Motoi Okamoto.

Additionally, the game will feature "the best facial expressions in the series' history," thanks to state-of-the-art motion capture sessions.

While there's no definite release date yet for the game, there is still hope for the game to hit store shelves before 2023 ends.
