YouTuber Markiplier’s First Hollywood Role is in Iron Lung’s Movie Adaptation

Markiplier is already a familiar name in the YouTube world thanks to his years of popularity in the streaming platform. Known for his game-related content, it's fitting that his first job in the Hollywood scene would be a movie adaptation of a horror game.

Markiplier Stepping Into Hollywood

Mark Fishbach, more known by his YouTube name, Markiplier, will be bringing David Szymanski's game Iron Lung to the big screen. The famous YouTuber will be taking on multiple roles to make the adaptation a reality.

Fishbach will be the producer, director, writer, and star for the first-person horror game movie adaptation. The production has already started and the cast and crew are already shooting scenes in Austin, Texas, according to Gizmodo.

The movie will feature actors such as Caroline Rose Kaplan, who was also in the movie "The Plot Against America" starring Winona Ryder. This will be Markiplier's first project for the big screen after years of success on YouTube.

The content creator is known for his playthrough content of mainstream action and horror games. Those who have met him have attested to the kind personality of the YouTuber, which has also factored into the gamer's popularity.

The Game

Iron Lung is a horror game where the main character, a convict which the player will have control of, will use the submarine with the titular name to mine resources as part of his prison sentence. The twist is that you'll do so with a growing paranoia of what's lurking within.

The game will let you scan through the surroundings of the underwater vehicle through a grainy camera while navigating through an "ocean of blood" and taking photos of key locations. All you'll have to guide you is an incomplete satellite map and proximity sensors.

Based on its description on Steam, the game is meant to be finished in under an hour. Iron Lung falls under the Adventure, Indie, and Simulation genres in the digital game service. All you need to play it is 200 MB of available space and 1 MB of RAM.

Game-Related Adaptations

The movie and TV show industry is recognizing more and more the potential of adaptations from games. There are now several titles that were based on famous games through the years, and the outcome has evidently seen success.

One of the most famous and recent is "The Last of Us" based on the game with the same title. The HBO Max show has been getting good reviews, with fans saying that the show was a good example of how adaptations should be made.

Another is Netflix's "Arcane" from League of Legends. Fans have applauded both the storyline and the animation for the show as it delves deeper into the stories of the champions in the game, especially Jinx, Vi, Caitlyn, Jace, and Viktor.

As for movies, "Sonic the Hedgehog" has also been successful with its entry to the big screen, although it did receive a lot of criticism in its first teaser, which shows a weird-looking Sonic. Fans eventually convinced the people behind the film to remake the character.
