Samsung’s Upcoming Foldable Phones Only Supports 25W Charging

Samsung's upcoming foldable phones still might not charge as fast as you want them to.

A leaked document showing the certifications of Samsung's upcoming foldable phones appears incapable of being charged with adapters that can supply power greater than 25W.

Previous Samsung Galaxy foldable phones, such as the latest Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Flip 4, are also incapable of being charged with 45W adapters and above, per Digital Trends.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Flip 5 Charging Details

Samsung's upcoming foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 come with some new features to get excited about, chief among these is their "waterdrop" type display structure that allows the phone's display to roll inside the main body in a waterdrop shape to form a gentler curve that leaves less of a crease.

However, those looking forward to getting Samsung's upcoming foldable phones may want to prepare themselves for disappointment. The sources of MyFixGuide revealed a certification that uncovers the charging specifications of Samsung's upcoming foldable phones.

The certification that MyFixGuide mentioned the following model numbers: SM-F7310 and SM-F9460. According to the publication's sources, the first model number belongs to the Galaxy Z Flip 5, while the second belongs to Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Both models use EP-TA800, the same charging model unit the company uses for 25W charging. It also supports charging in following modes: 15W (5V/3A), 25W (9V/2.77A or 11V/2.25A), and 10W-18W (3.3-5.9V/3A). This specification is worrisome for people who want to experience faster charging with Samsung's upcoming foldable phones since these devices don't support 45W charging that speeds up a phone's charging if it supports such a feature, per Android Authority.

That's not the only bummer coming for Samsung's upcoming foldable phones. According to Android Authority, there are unconfirmed rumors that suggest Samsung's upcoming devices might get a smaller battery, which would probably provide around 85 minutes of top-up time for the Fold 5 and about 75 minutes for the Flip 5.

Whether Samsung's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy could stretch the battery life of the company's upcoming devices is still unclear and up for debate.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Flip 5 Other Features

Aside from the 25W charge support, smaller battery, and waterdrop hinge, it's possible that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 would have Samsung's 'Flex In & Out' display that lets the phone be folded inward and outward much like the prototype it showcased during CES 2023.

However, it remains to be seen how Samsung will adjust its foldable phone software to accommodate the new feature. Since the phone can be folded outwards, half of the screen will be in constant contact with the user's hand or palm.

Tom's Guide mentioned that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 could have the same waterdrop hinge that the Z Fold 5 would have, making it possible for the foldable phone to bend inwards and outwards if the user so chooses.
