7 Ways You Can Keep Your Phone Chargers from Breaking

Phones are quite fragile but lucky for us, there are several options for phone cases we can choose from. The same goes for chargers, as well as ways you can minimize damage by using them properly, and here are tips to prolong your phone charger's lifespan.

1. Don't Use Your Phone While Charging

This is quite obvious, but sometimes people need to be reminded of it. Using your device while charging would subject the connectors to bending, and it may even damage your charging port. Not to mention, your phone's battery life will also shorten. If you need to use your phone, unplug it first to avoid irreparable breakage.

2. Use Proper Binders to Stash It Away

When you're storing your charger, it's best to bind it properly to avoid it being tangled with itself or other cords. The best way to do this is with charger-safe clips or velcro straps. Knotting it in itself could cause damage to the inner wirings, and it could get undone and make it seem like you never coiled it in the first place.

3. Buy a Separate Cord for Power Banks

Using longer cables for power banks is no way to go, as suggested by Armillo. Since the power bank is more often than not in close proximity to your phone, so you don't need it to be long anyway. It might just lead to the cord getting caught in things and sustaining damage, even pulling your phone and power bank with it.

4. Use Cable Protectors

There are a variety of cable protectors you can find in shops online. Some are meant to protect the connector itself, preventing it from bending in a way that it shouldn't. Or, you can purchase an actual cable protector, which acts as a second skin to your cable to increase its durability.

5. Pull The Charger Out by the Connector

The connector is the bulky part that you plug into the charging port. Once your phone is fully charged, make sure to pull it by the connector and not the cord itself. Doing so might loosen the wirings inside, and over time, your charger will no longer work or you'll have to place it a certain way before it even charges.

6. Purchase a Magnetic Adapter

Although a cord protector will work fine, you could also opt for magnetic charging by buying an adapter. This prevents the unnecessary bending of your charging cable connector and since one out of the two adaptors will stay on your charging port, it can also prevent dirt from entering, as mentioned in Femina

7. Buy a Protective Case

It's likely that you have more than one charger in your household for different devices, so it would be good sense to purchase a protective case to hold all your chargers. Some cases come with appropriate pockets and compartments to store all your cords and even plugs. Plus, it'll be nice to have just one place to store all your chargers.
