Modder Successfully Upscales, Doubles Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s FPS

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor could look and feel better with a small modification.

Respawn Entertainment's latest entry to its Star Wars Jedi series may have significant problems, but it can have smoother graphics thanks to a modder's efforts.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is now available for the PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, the EA app, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Graphics Mod Details

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is not having a great time since its release. According to Eurogamer and Kotaku, gamers have been review-bombing it due to its framerate dips even on medium settings despite mid-to-high-end graphics cards, crashes, and more.

While Respawn Entertainment announced it is working on an update to address gamers' concerns and fix them, one modder decided that they should try to see what they could accomplish with the game; they got something out of their attempt.

An article from Game Rant mentioned that the modder in question, who is also a YouTuber going by the username PureDark, managed to double Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's framerate using a mod utilizing DLSS upscaling technology, allowing the game to run at a frame rate near the mid-90s and providing gamers with a smoother performance.

PureDark's YouTube video showed that the game was struggling to maintain a framerate in the high 40s, which is a miracle in and of itself considering the framerate issues the game has on PC. However, they then opened a menu and activated their DLSS frame generation mod, which uses upscaling technology; the game ran more smoothly as a result.

Unfortunately, PureDark mentioned in their video's description that while the mod he made is usable, it doesn't have a very polished implementation. Additionally, PurDark doesn't know whether they'll release the mod they made, as it's currently "for showcasing."

Whether PureDark will release the mode they made or not is still up for debate - he mentioned that while he might release the mod at its current version "very soon," he has no intention of polishing it further.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor PC Problems

Star Wars: Jedi Survivor's current status in the gaming community is awful at best. While the game is suffering bugs, crashes, and various issues on all available platforms, its PC version is the worst hit of them all.

The problem is bad enough that Respawn Entertainment released a statement addressing the game's various problems, especially on PC. According to the game's official Twitter account, Respawn said they are aware of the game's problems on PC and that while there is no "single, comprehensive solution for PC performance," it's been working on fixes it believes will improve performance across multiple configurations both in-game and in PC specifications.

"We are committed to fixing these issues as soon as possible, but each patch requires significant testing to ensure we don't introduce new [ones]," Respawn said.
