LG G Flex with flexible display may come to AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile

LG's first smartphone with a flexible display will be making its way to AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile, according to new information.

Samsung and LG were in a race to see which manufacturer would release the first smartphone with a curved display. Samsung beat LG to the punch by announcing its Galaxy Round smartphone in October. LG soon followed with its own flexible-display offering when it announced the G Flex.

Unlike Samsung, LG will be shipping the G Flex to multiple carriers around the world. Samsung has kept the Galaxy Round in Korea, even though the handset can be purchased unlocked in the U.S. LG, on the other hand, is releasing the G Flex in Asia and Europe and new information now claims that AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile will launch the handset in the U.S.

The always-reliable evleaks posted a message to Twitter saying the LG G Flex has been "confirmed for AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile."

The LG G Flex features a 6-inch curved 1280 x 720 OLED display with a pixel density of 245 pixels per inch (ppi) and it's running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. It's powered by a 2.26GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit (GPU).

LG ships the G Flex with 32GB of internal storage (no microSD expansion slot) and 2GB of RAM. The handset is also packing in a 13-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and the ability to record 1080p video @60fps, as well as a 2.1-megapixel front facing camera for video chat and self shots. Its wireless connectivity options include 4G LTE radio, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 LE (low energy), GPS, and NFC. The smartphone uses a non-removable 3,500 mAh battery.

Unlike Samsung's Galaxy Round, which features a curved display from left to right, LG has made the curve on the G Flex to be top-to-bottom. It also added a neat self-healing feature on the back of the smartphone, which allows the handset to repair itself from small scratches.

There's no word on when we can expect to see the LG G Flex to make its way to AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile. We'll be sure to update you once more information becomes available.
