Vimeo is embracing the capabilities of the latest AI tools.
The video hosting and sharing platform recently announced the addition of a first-of-its-kind end-to-end AI-powered video creation suite that will allow anyone to record fully produced videos and edit them in seconds.
These AI-powered features will become available starting July 17 as part of Video's Standard plan.
Vimeo AI-powered Tools Details
Vimeo mentioned in its announcement that its end-to-end AI-powered video creation suite aims to help people uncomfortable with creating videos themselves due to their lack of skills, time, or resources to do so effectively. Ashraf Alkarmi, Vimeo's chief product officer, says that the new tools are aimed at people like CEOs, employees, and social media managers, per Tech Crunch.
According to the research it made, 80% of people prefer videos over written text, but most people are uncomfortable making them for the previously mentioned reasons.
The AI-powered video creation suite has three tools to help people do just that: the new AI-powered script generator, a teleprompter, and a text-based video editor.
Vimeo's AI-powered script generator allows users to create a video script in seconds using generative AI using brief text descriptions and their preferred tone and video length. This particular tool uses OpenAI's ChatGPT to turn user prompts into the video scripts the tool produces, per Gizmodo.

This video script will then be viewable in the company's new Teleprompter tool, allowing people to read the script its ChatGPT-powered script generator created while maintaining natural eye contact with the webcam with its built-in display. Furthermore, users can also use the teleprompter to personalize the script's font size and pace as it appears on-screen while recording videos.
Lastly, Vimeo's text-based video editor automatically deletes filler words, like "ahs" and "umms," long pauses, and awkward moments, with only a single click. It would then restitch affected clips into a workable video by recognizing parts of the script. While the end product might look and sound weird, Alkarmi assured people that the edits would look and sound better and smoother than simple jump cuts between the missing words.
With these tools, Vimeo is confident that people with little to no experience in creating videos can quickly create highlight reels, host virtual events or company meetings, export quote clips for short marketing videos, or clean up a high-profile video before sharing.

The tools within Vimeo's AI-powered video creation suite will be available on July 17; they're available for anyone to try for free as part of its Standard subscription plan, which costs $20 per month (billed annually). Vimeo users can also try these tools for free in Vimeo's Pro subscription plan.
These tools wouldn't be the first and last AI-powered tools Vimeo will develop for its users to enjoy. Interestingly, these AI-powered tools are only the first step Vimeo is taking to further expand its AI strategy, which enables "a wide range of AI tools and capabilities to seamlessly integrate into its platform in the future."
