Subway is giving away one million subs for free.
The popular fast-food restaurant franchise recently announced it is giving away one million six-inch subs next week as it rolls out its third major menu overhaul, made possible by its new automated deli slicers.
Subway updated its menu for a second time in 2021, which was also accompanied by a "lackluster" free sub giveaway, per Business Insider.
Subway Deli Slicer Details
Subway mentioned in its announcement it had installed an automated deli meat slicer in 20,000 Subway restaurants in the US, which it invested $80 million in thanks to suggested Subway customers left.
Trevor Haynes, President, North America at Subway, said that employees only had to press a button to have the slicer do its work on the product placed on it.
As a result, the 20,000 stores with the new deli slicers can now sell freshly sliced meats - the company's latest and allegedly biggest change since its establishment in 1965. The deli slicers also allowed the creation of a new Subway Series menu category called Deli Heroes, a collection of the "ultimate deli subs" that showcases the new deli slicers.
Haynes said that the changes the company made are bigger and more transformational; it also raises the bar even higher for "the brand that defined fresh."

According to Subway, the sandwiches that utilize under the Deli Heroes category, which are ordered by name and number, will "satisfy the strongest of cravings." These new additions are the following:
- Titan Turkey (#15): a sandwich consisting of freshly sliced turkey with double provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and mayonnaise. Served on Artisan Italian bread.
- Grand Slam Ham (#99): a sandwich with freshly sliced Ham, double provolone, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and mayonnaise. Served on Artisan Italian bread.
- Garlic Roast Beef (#17): a sandwich made of roast Beef, double provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and Roasted Garlic Aioli. Served on Artisan Italian bread.
- The Beast (#30): a sandwich comprised of pepperoni, salami, turkey, ham, roast beef, double provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, mayonnaise, and MVP Vinaigrette. Served on Artisan Italian bread.
Subway mentioned that its culinary team spent over a year developing the new additions under the Deli Heroes category; the Titan Turkey and Grand Slam Ham feature 33% more meat than traditional subs, while the Beast boasts a half pound of meat. Meanwhile, its All Deli Heroes come with double cheese, served on the company's freshly baked bread with the optimal combination of sauces and vegetables - which Subway slices fresh in restaurants every day.
Subway Giveaway Details
To help Americans taste and learn more about the new Deli Heroes category, Subway is giving away 1 million six-inch Deli Heroes sub for free at participating restaurants across the U.S. on July 11 between 10 AM and 12 PM local time.
However, the company clarified that the first 50 consumers to ask will receive a free six-inch Deli Heroes sub while supplies last and that deliveries for the free subs are not available.
It's probable that the Deli Heroes cateogry will become available to customers at a price after the giveaway, though Subway has yet to announce the price tags of the subs under the new category.
