Dr. Eric Berg's Opinion on Scientology's Study Technology

QUESTION FOR DR. BERG:

WHAT IS SCIENTOLOGY "STUDY TECHNOLOGY" AND WHAT DO YOU THINK OF IT?

DR. BERG:

Scientology's technology of study changed my life forever! It took my ability to learn new things to a whole new level. Think about it - are we taught how to study in school? No - it's all about memorization, which is not learning.

As early as the 1950's and 60's, Mr. Hubbard found that the inability to study and apply knowledge was a serious barrier to education for millions of people. He set out to figure out what are the fundamentals to learning and what are the barriers. When I first learned how to study using Study Tech, I basically re-studied most of my past education. Like I said in previous videos, there is just not enough time to really learn and fully comprehend all the medical and health data that we were given. I had just enough time to pass the test and move on to the next subject.

Older educational systems are based on feeding students rote "facts" and expecting them to memorize and repeat them back to score well on their tests. The Hubbard study technology is based on comprehension, conceptual understanding, and ability to apply what one has learned. I

was originally introduced to the Basic Study Manual, based on the works of L. Ron Hubbard, which contains the basics on study technology, and I highly recommend it for anyone.

Using the basics of study, I was able to accomplish two major things: Doing independent research to uncover workable truths to help people get healthier, and imparting that knowledge to others in a way that was simple, understandable and usable. I have the study technology to thank for this!

There are about one billion people worldwide who are - to greater or lesser degree - illiterate. If you could put in people's hands a technology of study, that anyone could use to get educated and make a better life, it'd be truly revolutionary. That's exactly what is available in the study technology.

The nonprofit, nonreligious organization, Applied Scholastics International, is dedicated to get this technology out into the world and raise global literacy and education standards. There are more than 1,000 Applied Scholastic groups and schools operating in over 70 countries, and so far, more than 135,000 educators have been trained in the study technology. In South Africa, for example, courses and workshops have been delivered to 20,000 teachers, and in Zimbabwe to 18,000 teachers. Globally, close to 40 million students have been helped with literacy and learning through Applied Scholastics programs, most of which are delivered totally free.

Another excellent example of putting power into people's hands is The World Literacy Crusade (WLC), a grass-roots literacy movement founded by a Baptist minister after the inner-city riots that shook Los Angeles in 1992.

Working with Scientologists and others in an interfaith coalition, he and his team have used the Study Tech as the spearhead in combatting the scourge of illiteracy that is at the root of so many problems facing underserved communities. The connection between illiteracy, drugs and crime cannot be overstated, and WLC works with children, parents, pastors, educators and government to reverse this trend. Their work has expanded globally from Los Angeles to Africa, Australia and beyond. Working directly with gang members in LA, to cite one example, 87 percent of teens involved in gangs and drugs, who completed the literacy program, made the decision to walk away from their former lifestyle and lead productive, ethical lives.

One of the best things about the study technology is how easy it is for children and adults to grasp and use, and the immediate results obtainable. Does one have to "join Scientology" to learn this? No. Not at all. Anyone can learn and use it. It's for anyone and everyone. Personally, I owe a large part of my success to it. More importantly, millions of people I've reached have benefited!

A workable technology of study, that anyone can use to learn any subject, is truly empowering, and I invite anyone to look into it and make their lives better!
