The Witcher 3 Blood and Wine DLC: Fairytales from the Land of a Thousand Fables

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has a lot of recognizable references in the game, especially in the Blood and Wine DLC, such as the bear wearing a red shirt that gives you honey if you kill it. In the "Beyond Hill and Dale..." quest where you have to get Syanna out of the Land of a Thousand Fables, you'll go through several fairytales you heard or saw as a kid.

1. Jack and the Beanstalk

Remember the story about the poor boy called Jack who traded their family cow for some magic beans? He will be the first fairytale character you'll encounter. Syanna and Geralt will need the beans to climb up and out of the magical land, but Jack no longer has the beans.

Before you find Jack and Syanna, you'll have to follow a yellow brick road, a reference from "The Wizard of Oz." After that, you go through other familiar story characters in order to retrieve the red, yellow, and blue beans.

2. The Wicked Witch

Speaking of "The Wizard of Oz, you'll also come across the Wicked Witch, although she won't have the green-colored skin you grew up hearing about. She does have a crooked nose and wrinkly skin, which is what the general description of a witch is.

Once you interact with her, you'll end up having to kill her. She'll be a hard one to beat since she can fly. Her broom also has a mind and a life of its own so somehow, you'll have to defeat it too. You don't have to visit her since she doesn't have one of the beans.

3. Little Red Riding Hood

Another story you've probably heard of is "The Little Red Riding Hood." Sadly, you won't actually meet the titular character. Instead, you'll see the big bad wolf who seems to have a drinking problem and a Jamaican accent.

In order to complete the sub-quest, you'll have to take a dive and find the iconic red hood. Syanna will play the girl and Geralt will play the hunter. Upon defeating the wolf, Geralt will open him up and find the red bean, so you have to go through there.

4. The Little Match Girl

There's a story about a young girl trying to sell matches during New Year's Eve. She can't go home in fear that her father would be angry at her for failing to sell them and ends up freezing to death. In The Blood and Wine DLC, she is no longer the helpless girl in the story.

Instead, she is now an aspiring young vendor who has moved on to selling drug paraphernalia like Fisstech. Although she doesn't have any of the beans, you also need to get through there to get Syanna's ribbon, which you can buy for 500 coins or win by playing Gwent.

5. Three Little Pigs

The story revolves around three pigs who each made their houses out of straw, sticks, and bricks. When a wolf passed by, he managed to blow the houses of straw and sticks away but the brick house remained intact. In this quest, Geralt plays the fitting role of the wolf.

The only house left standing is the brick house, but Geralt will be able to tear it down using Aard. As he does so, three of the bigs will run out and try to kill him. Upon defeating the three, you can then take the blue bean from the ruined house.

6. Rapunzel

You'll probably recognize this the most since Disney made a movie out of it called "Tangled," but this story has a far more macabre ending for the titular character. In order to reach Rapunzel or Longlocks, you'll have to climb the famed tower and will even find a dead prince along the way.

Upon reaching the top, you see her hanging from the chandelier using her own hair. You'll have to fight her as a wraith before you can get the yellow bean. On your way out, you'll also be able to see the animals standing on top of each other in reference to "Town Musicians of Bremen."

7. Puss in Boots

The feline is not really part of the quest or something you can interact with. However, you will find it in the village where the Little Flint Girl is located. Much like the Town Musicians of Bremen, it's just there for the fun of it.
