5 Disturbing 'Black Mirror' Characters, Explained

"Black Mirror" features various characters within its standalone narrative that sets the series in a dystopian and near-futuristic scenarios. For over a decade, the series was able to portray the horrors of the ever-evolving technological landscape. 

For six seasons, many characters have piqued the viewers' interest due to their unsettling and disturbing roles. Here are some of the most disturbing "Black Mirror" characters:

Janet McCardle (Loch Henry)

In Season 6, Episode 2, Janet is a loving mom to his son Davis. During the start of the episode, Janet was seen living alone and was only kept company by her collection of recorded shows that she and her late husband loved. However, the tapes revealed that some of them holds a recording of the crimes committed by Janet, her late husband, and Iain Adair. 

Later on it was unveiled that Janet was a sadistic serial killer and the trio were responsible for the infamous kidnapping story within Loch Henry. The trio was known for kidnapping tourists, torturing, murdering, and burying the victims in the backyard while filming the whole scene. 

Rolo Haynes (Black Museum)

In Season 4, Episode 6, Rolo is the owner and curator of Black Museum. In the episode, Rolo is fond of collecting authentic criminological artifacts. He is know for having a sadistic pleasure when he is inflicting pain on his living artifact. 

One of the main attractions in the museum was a hologram that was able to trap consciousness. In there, Rolo are encouraging visitors to try torturing the hologram. By the end of the episode, Rolo met his demise when his consciousness was trapped forever in the hologram. 

Mia Nolan (Crocodile)

In Season 4, Episode 3, Mia is a successful architect with a dark past. Back when she was a teenager, she and her boyfriend hit a bicyclist, afraid of the consequences the pair did all the things to cover up the incident. 

Years later, Mia, now haunted by the past, had to use a recaller, that allows an investigator to scan the memories of every witness. Afraid that she will be caught Mia when through the extreme lengths of killing every one that she thinks will threaten her freedom, including a baby. 

Robert Daly (U.S.S Callister)

In Season 4, Episode 1, Robert is a tech-genius and co-founder of Callister Inc. However, due to bullying he started cloning his co-workers and placing them on what appears to be a spoof on Star Trek. 

Inside the game, his co-workers are well-aware of the unending torture and abuse. Fortunately, they were able to escape Daly's control and was able to trap him inside the game, leaving his virtual self alone and his real self slowly dying. 

Carlton Bloom (The National Anthem)

In Season 1, Episode 1, Carlton is the mysterious caller who was able to force the Prime Minister to have an intercourse with a pig on a live television in order to save the Princess.. While the government tried every trick to avoid the intercourse from happening, Carlton had it all planned and was able to turn the people to favor him. 

By the end of the intercourse, the princess was released only to find out that she was released by Carlton half an hour prior to the intercourse. After the government realized his statement, they found out that Carlton hanged himself.
