Gamescom 2023: Tekken 8 Gets a Release Date for Early 2024

The Gamescom 2023 event gave gamers a lot to look forward to for 2023. The second half of the year will be seeing a lot of big releases, so it's not so bad that Tekken 8 will arrive next year. Regardless, fans are still looking forward to it, especially with new additions to the game.

Tekken 8 Release Date

The King of the Iron Fist Tournament continues as Bandai Namco announced the release date for Tekken 8. The anticipated game will be arriving in stores on January 26, 2024. Preorders are already open for the game for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The game will have 32 fighters to choose from, which is a drop from the 36 playable characters from its predecessor. The removal of certain characters like Heihachi Mishima is but a small matter, especially since the latest game is bringing in new additions.

For one, the premiere trailer shows that there will be a new single-player mode called Arcade Quest. Not much is said about it, but it looks like players can create an avatar that can interact with arcade machines in a virtual world.

Through there, they will be able to compete in Tekken tournaments against other real-life players. The avatars can also be customized, allowing players to change hairstyles, clothing, and more, just like they can with the actual Tekken champions.

Pre-ordering the game will get players exclusive avatar skins of Paul Phoenix in his red attire and iconic spiked-up hair. They can also get a Mokujin and Tetsujin skin, but it's a PlayStation-exclusive pre-order perk.

As for the plot of the game, it will likely be about the Mishima feud still. The battle between Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima continues. Not much has changed with the other characters, although Paul Phoenix is now sporting a flowy blond style instead of the usual stiff towering hair.

Some of the other favorites that will still be in the game are Marshall Law, King, Jack-8, Nina Williams, Asuka Kazama, Lili, Bryan Fury, and Raven. Both the website and the trailer did not show Alisa Bosconovitch, sadly, so it's quite possible that she's out.

Other Fighting Games to be Released

Tekken 8 has a lot of competition, all of which are set to be released this year. Mortal Kombat 1 is already open for pre-orders, but the release is not until September 19th. It is said to center around a new Mortal Kombat Universe created by the Fire God Liu Kang.

Fans can expect a new fighting system, game modes, and fatalities. The game can be played on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Unfortunately, it is no longer available for PS4, just like Tekken 8.

Street Fighter 6, on the other hand, can still be played on the PS5's predecessor. The game has already been released on June 2nd, and it can be played on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It has three modes which are fighting ground, battle hub, and world tour.
