Players are Stuck on ‘The Killing Moon’ Quest in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty

Phantom Liberty is a success in a lot of ways. The characters have hauntingly good backstories, the missions are anything but boring, and the overall story aligns with the theme of Night City and its lack of happy endings. However, a lot of players have the same problem, which is stuck waiting for the call from Songbird.

'The Killing Moon' Bug

The quest automatically starts once you finish "Firestarter," which is where you decide whether you'll side with Songbird by helping her or with Reed by trying to use the ICEbreaker to incapacitate the netrunner. Of course, ending up with "The Killing Moon" means you helped Songbird.

You'll end up fighting your way out of the stadium and in the end, V and Songbird will go on their separate ways for the time being. This is where the problem starts for some players. It will take a while before Songbird calls, and there's no actual timetable for it.

It's completely normal to wait a couple of in-game days before you hear from Songbird, but other players are experiencing bugs that others aren't. For instance, u/JKBP0048 has gone through five in-game weeks and has not received the call yet.

Others suggested that the player should first finish the "Run This Town" quest from Mr. Hands. The fixer will call sometime after "Firestarter," although there's also no fixed timeline for when he will. Some players say that they got the call from Songbird soon after finishing the quest.

Despite finishing Mr. Hands' quest as well as skipping time repeatedly, there have been complaints that it still did not initiate the call from the dying netrunner. There were also other issues like the call button being red, meaning that the action could not be executed.

The call button being unavailable is definitely a bug. Personally, I have tried several endings, and I've encountered the bug once. Saving and reloading the file did the trick, while others suggested that V should enter combat so they could regain the ability to call or read messages.

Reddit user u/theboy__ said that they managed to get the quest working by reloading the save where V still hasn't gotten the face implant that allows the character to impersonate the twins. One reply said that after Mr. Hands called, the clock on the call function was fixed.

What You Should Do in the Meantime

There might be a chance that the game is not experiencing a bug. There's no certain amount of time before Songbird calls, but there are other things you can do. In case you've already done all the side quests before "Firestarter," you'll get one from Mr. Hands anyway.

You might also end up starting "Moving Heat," which weirdly doesn't have a definite timeline as well. But, you do have to finish "Birds With Broken Wings" first. Since you're already in "The Killing Moon," you're already done with it.

A netrunner called Ashlay will text you, offering to give you the car that the twins rented called Sport R7 Charon, given that you delete the data on it. Doing so undetected is optional, but getting caught will anger Ashlay and she will alert BARGHEST soldiers to come after you.
