Google Cloud announced new features in the Vertex AI Search that will cater to healthcare and life sciences organizations, during the HLTH 2023.

Vertex AI Search for Health Science
Google added a "medically-tuned" generative AI-powered search that can analyze data such as clinical sources, FHIR data, and clinical notes to the Vertex AI Search. The new feature was made possible by integrating Google Cloud's Healthcare API, Healthcare Data Engine, and Google Health's Care Studio.
Vertex AI Search is intended to give solutions for acute and increasing problems in labor shortage especially in the medical and health field. The new capabilities brought by the AI search engine will hopefully lessen the burden and burnout cases among healthcare workers since it will significantly save them time and energy.
"Bringing Google-quality, gen AI search capabilities across an organization's entire ecosystem, including EHRs, has the potential to dramatically improve efficiencies, provide clinical decision support, and increase the quality of care clinicians can give patients," VP and GM for Cloud AI and Industry Solutions for Google Cloud Burak Gokturk said.
How AI Will Significantly Help Health Industry
Google Cloud customers can sign up for early access to the Vertex AI Search. Google has opened it for trial and sharing of feedback before rolling it out to the general public. Moreover, Google assured that the new features are user-friendly since it is set up for a question-answering and conversational search that is possible with its foundation models.
Google Cloud's customers will also have control over their data. Customers are guaranteed that Google Cloud has a reliable infrastructure and secure data storage to maintain each customer's security, privacy controls, and processes.
The medical and health industry can both maximize their benefits by using Vertex AI Search features along with Med-PaLM 2, Google's medically-tuned large learning model. Vertex AI will handle information that is based on the patient record while the Med-PaLM 2 will handle the complex medical topics.
