Apple Prepares for M3-Based MacBooks

As reported by Mark Gurman, the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros that are powered by M3 Pro and M3 Pro Max chips are already nearing mass production. At this rate, the company might release the devices around early and spring 2024 to match the previous year's timing.

On the other hand, those who are eyeing the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air might have to wait longer. The M3-based Airs have just reached its EVT stage which means that it could be released between spring and summer next year. However, this is just the earliest possible estimate and can still change.

Usually, Apple releases its new MacBooks and iPads by October, which is around a month after the iPhone and watch has been released. However, the M3-based lineup could have possibly taken a long time due to the intricate and powerful upgrades that the company is planning to integrate.

What to Expect With Apple's M3-Lineup

Apple is yet to officially announce the M3 devices, however, there are some guesses already that hint at its potential to become the most powerful chip there is. According to Mac Rumors, the M3 chip will have an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU, bearing some similarities to the M2 chip.

In addition, the M3 chips are rumored to be powered by TSMC's newest 3-nanometer chip technology which will improve the efficiency and performance of the devices. Most importantly, it could boost the battery life of the M-series Macs.

Apple might use the standard M3 Chip for both MacBook Air sizes, 13-inch MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and 24-inch iMac. Meanwhile, the M3 Pro Chip might appear on Mac mini and the remaining MacBook Pro sizes. The M3 Max Chip might be featured on 16-inch MacBook Pro and Mac Studio. Lastly, the M3 Ultra Chip might only be offered to Mac Studio and Mac Pro.
