Apple OLED iPad Pro, Bigger iPad Air Potentially for Release Next Year

Apple might release an OLED version of the iPad Pro and a bigger iPad Air along with its next year's lineup.

The big tech company is expected to introduce the long-awaited OLED iPad Pro and a new 12.9-inch iPad Air to kickstart its iPad line overhaul in 2024, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Next year's releases will mark Apple's focus to include the M3 processor and OLED displays for its iPad devices.

Apple began using OLED screens with the iPhone X in 2017 and the first Apple Watch in 2015, but made little progress away from being LCD-dependent in iMacs and iPads.

OLED Screen Vs LCD Screen Comparison: Display, Performance, and Efficiency

While LCD screens were the staple standard for mobile devices, companies have started to turn towards OLED displays for various reasons.

OLED's biggest advantage is how each pixel is individually lit, avoiding dimmed display when viewing from various angles.

This also means more vibrant colors and deeper blacks, thus no more unsolicited face reflections while watching darker scenes.

The one thing LCDs have over OLED is their ability to avoid screen burn-ins when after prolonged display exposure. Unfortunately, most devices already have screensavers and other functions to avoid burn-ins automatically.

LCD also has a slight advantage over OLED in energy consumption as brighter and more colorful images also translate to faster battery use.

OLED display is usually recommended for smaller screens and gaming.

OLED iPad, 12.9 Inch iPad Air Release Date

According to Kuo, the 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Airs are scheduled for mass production in early 2024.

The OLED iPad Pro is not slated for mass production until the first or second quarter of next year due to production issues with OLED panel modules.

The iPad Pros will come with the Tandem design and LTPO backplanes that were used in the iPhone 15 line.

No reported prices yet for either the OLED iPad Pro or iPad Air.
