Uber to Begin 'Uber Tasks' Test Runs in Florida, Alberta

Service provider Uber announced the start of its TaskRabbit-like program, "Uber Tasks," tests in Fort Myers, Florida, and Edmonton, Alberta.

A mini-pilot program will be launched to assess the app's limits in helping people hire others to complete various household tasks.

Uber drivers and couriers can enroll in the program to help customers with simple home tasks, like furniture assembly, laundry, and lawn mowing.

For the holiday seasons, snow removal, packing and unpacking, Christmas decorations, and yard cleaning can also be applied for chore service.

Uber said the new program will allow drivers and couriers to put their skills to work and earn on their own schedule."

The program is part of the company's effort to expand its driving and delivery services.

Test runs for the program are scheduled to start next week.

What are 'Uber Tasks' and Household Tasks Services?

Online household tasks services have been around in the U.S. for quite some time. TaskRabbit and Angi have been offering various hiring services since 2008.

The launching of the Uber Tasks is seen as the delivery giant's declaration to enter the competition.

Last week, Uber released its third-quarter earnings where it is reported to have a sales increase of 11% from last year. The Q3 data indicates the company's slowest revenue growth in the last 10 quarters.

Bloomberg reported plans for the service, initially codenamed "Chore," in Uber's iPhone app in September.

According to the code, a "tasker" can be hired to complete selected chores for a minimum of one hour.

'Uber Tasks' Program Application

Uber has not released much information about the promised Uber Tasks app.

Details for the mini-program test launching have also been minimal. As of the moment, only selected drivers and couriers from Fort Myers and Edmonton are eligible for the test.

Uber is expected to update more details regarding the program in the following months.
