Paramount+ Significantly Reduced the Number of Movies In its Library

With the subscription prices of streaming services increasing, it's getting harder to subscribe to each of them at the same time. If you are looking for the best service based on its movie library, you might not want to pick Paramount+ as it reduced its titles by more than half.

Paramount+ Has Less Than 1,000 Films

Streaming services have been audited to determine how many movie titles can be watched by subscribers on the streaming platform, and it was found that Paramount+ has cut its numbers from more than 2,300 titles to just 830 titles in a year.

More than half of its film content has been removed between October 2022 and October 2023. Despite that, the streaming service still hasn't lost any of its subscribers. In fact, it has seen an increase in paying viewers, as reported by Gizmodo.

Reelgood noted that Paramount+ added 2.7 million more subscribers over the summer, which brings its total to 63 million customers. This could be due to the fact that most viewers subscribe to the service for its series franchises like "Star Trek" and "Yellowstone."

What's more impressive is that at the same period when the streaming service gained more subscribers, it also raised its prices as it collaborated with Showtime. Its Premium plan has gone from $9.99 to $11.99 back in late June.

Paramount plans to get rid of its Showtime app altogether and rebrand the channel as Paramount+ with Showtime by the end of 2023, as reported by The Verge. For now, the company still offers its essential plan without Showtime and with ads.

If you're looking for the best platform when it comes to the number of movies you can browse through, Prime Video has the most to offer with more than 12,000 titles in its library, which is an increase from last year's 10,285.

The catalog is twice the size of the leading streaming service, Netflix, which only has about 4,000 movie titles to offer. Max has several movies in its library as well, although its numbers have gone down from 2,558 to 2,168 in a year.

What's The Best Streaming Service to Subscribe To?

It all boils down to your preference, especially since the number of accessible movies in a streaming service doesn't necessarily mean that it's content that you would like to watch. For instance, being a fan of the "Game of Thrones" franchise might urge you to opt for Max.

Netflix is also offering several original titles that you won't find anywhere else, and so far, the streaming giant has done a good job of creating TV shows and movies that appeal to many viewers. Still, it's undeniable that its subscription prices are getting too expensive.

For instance, its Premium plan has gone from $19.99 to $22.99. By comparison, Max's ad-free tier is $15.99, $19.99 if you want to stream in 4K. As per CableTV, Disney+ offers a much cheaper subscription with its Premium tier at $13.99 a month.
