Google Rolls Out .meme Domain for Internet Memes Sites

Internet, rejoice!

Google has launched a domain extension exclusively dedicated to users to be proud of memes and internet jokes.

The tech giant's latest notice includes specifics on how users can now slap a big .meme on the end of their website when signing up on Google Registry.

The domain extension is currently available as an "additional one-time fee" bonus under the early-access period. The feature will soon be available to the general public on Dec. 5, Tuesday.

Popular meme website, Know Your Meme, already changed its website address in tune with the new update.

And in true internet fashion, most websites registered under the meme domain are cat-related spaces.

This was not the first time Google introduced weird or silly domain extensions. The search engine previously debuted domain names like .dad, .boo, .lol, and even a .ing extension.

How to Register .meme Domain in Google?

Applying for the funny domain name is the same as regular domain registration with just a few extra steps.

Website developers can register for their website on trusted partners like GoDaddy and 101Domain.

The next step involves buying the rights to the domain, although the cost for the meme-themed domain name might be high for now.

Google promised to reduce the price of the site every day until its public release in early December.

If you intend to fully dive into the meme name, Google's trusted partners offer plans and discounts to keep the website exclusively to you. You just need to pay for it annually or monthly.

Other Google Announcements

Along with the introduction of the meme domain extension, Google also announced several changes users might experience soon.

Among those is the unfortunate news that Google Calendar will no longer be supported on Android 7.1 and older devices.

Ad-blockers may also be more troublesome when accessing Google sites with the company's new anti-ad blockers on the roll.
