Planning to Build a Gaming PC? Here Are 5 Cons You Should Consider First

The debate between gaming on PC and on console is still pretty active today. Both sides have valid arguments about the ups and downs of both gaming methods. If you believe that PC is superior among the two, here are the negative aspects that you should consider first.

1. Cost

This is basically the biggest downside to choosing PC. In order to play video games in the best setting, you'll have to invest in some expensive components. Otherwise, you might be limited when it comes to graphics and other factors, as well as the titles your PC can run.

One of the costly parts would be the GPU, which plays a huge part in making sure that your PC won't suffer when running something like an open-world RPG game. To match the capabilities of a console, you might end up spending twice as much.

2. Lack of Tech Expertise

If you know your way around a computer, both hardware and software, then that's good for you. However, having the base knowledge of building a PC might not be enough. Things can go wrong and you can spend hours if not days troubleshooting your mistake.

There are a lot of factors that can go wrong. Something as simple as not allotting enough wattage to your RAM can cause your PC to shut down as soon as you boot it up. Then there are drivers, wirings, software settings, and more processes you have to go through.

3. Exclusive Titles

Here lies another issue with PC gaming. Companies that sell consoles as well as games like Sony tend to make titles exclusive. For instance, it was a while before The Last of Us had a PC port, and it was even buggy during its release.

To date, certain PlayStation titles are still exclusive like God of War: Ragnarok, The Last of Us II, Spider-Man 2, Horizon Forbidden West, and more. The same goes for Xbox exclusives like Sea of Thieves, Forza Horizon 5, Gears 5, and so on.

4. Optimization Issues

Playing AAA games on a PC can be infuriating if the title is not as optimized as it is on a console. Since the latter is created mainly for gaming, you can expect that games will run smoothly, especially if for instance, the title was formerly an exclusive.

When a game is unoptimized, you'll experience frame drops, screen stutters, bugs, and other issues that will probably ruin your gaming experience. This can be from either not reaching the PC requirement for the game, or the game itself not being completely fixed.

5. Maintenance and Upgrades

If you own a console, then you know it has a lot of good years before you have to upgrade it. There are even recent games that still run well on the PS4. The same cannot be said for PC games, especially now that AAA games are getting higher PC requirements.

If you want to continue to play without a hitch while having the game in its highest settings, you'll have to pony up for upgrades, and it's not going to be cheap. Have you seen the price of PC components? Those numbers are enough to make a grown man cry.
