Samsung’s Upcoming AI Fridge Can Give You Recipes Based on What You Have

Integrating AI into appliances is not a new concept, and it's an expected advancement considering the advancement of the technology. Samsung is one of many who intend to take advantage of AI smart features, and they are bringing it to their 2024 Bespoke Refrigerator.

Samsung's 2024 Bespoke 4-Door Flex

This will perhaps be the smartest fridge you can get next year as Samsung already plans to introduce it at the CES 2024 event, along with other kitchen products, apps, and features powered by the company's SmartThings system.

The 2024 Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator will feature AI Vision, which allows the appliance to take account of the food you have in stock. It will use a smart internal camera to identify items you put in and take out of the fridge.

Information about your stock will be displayed on the fridge's 32-inch LCD Family Hub screen. You may even manually input expiration dates for certain items and the fridge will alert you if that date is close so that you may consume the food before it goes bad.

You can access the Samsung Food app through the LCD screen and connect your Samsung Health profile, allowing you to craft recipes that fit your dietary needs and restrictions. For example, it can accommodate vegan, pescetarian, gluten-free, and other kinds of diets.

If you feel like the kind of recipes that the smart fridge can generate is limited, you can always go for streaming apps like YouTube and TikTok to look for recipes. You won't need your smartphone as well since you can access these apps through the refrigerator's screen.

As advanced as this sounds, there are some limitations to the AI capabilities of the kitchen appliance. For instance, it can only identify 33 food items for now, meaning that only the common items can be taken into account.

You'll need the paid subscription to utilize the full capabilities Samsung Food+ feature. Unfortunately for users outside of the US, Samsung has not announced its availability for other countries yet, although it's likely that the tech giant will release the Bespoke refrigerator more widely.

Samsung's Food Application

The personalized AI-powered recipe platform from Samsung was first announced back in late August. The feature is available in eight languages and can be accessed in 104 countries, and can take on the role of a personal assistant when it comes to food experiences.

With the AI tool, users can access more than 160,000 available recipes, which can be used to create tailored meal plans as well as order ingredients online. There are creators you can follow to stay updated on the recipes they post online.

With the Personalize Recipe function, existing recipes can be modified to accommodate the dietary restrictions of a user. For instance, a vegetarian recipe can be turned vegan, all while taking into account the food that is available in one's fridge.

It indicates the nutritional information in the recipes by listing the calories, fats, carbs, sugars, protein, sodium, and fiber in the dish or recipe. You can even use the app to create a meal plan for the entire week.
