Electric guitars are usually associated with subgenres of rock, but they also create the best sound for other genres like jazz, blues, neo-soul, and more. If you plan on buying one or already own one, here are accessories you should have for the best playing experience.
1. Guitar Case
This might not be necessary if you plan on keeping it at home, but if you're going to take it out often, you will need a bag and a sturdy one at that. Electric guitars are less forgiving than acoustic guitars when it comes to bumps and falls. Purchase a hard or well-padded one to protect your instrument during travels.
2. Guitar Strap
You'll be thankful you have one once you start playing while standing up. Unlike acoustic guitars, they are much heavier and have slimmer bodies, meaning you can't easily prop them, up with your forearm. Some straps even come with little pockets that can hold your picks for you, which can be useful since they get lost often.
3. Tuner
If you're new to string instruments like guitars, you probably don't have a keen ear for tuning yet, but that won't be much of an issue if you have a tuner. Sure, there are free apps that can do that for you, but they can sometimes be inaccurate and your guitar will end up sounding a little off. Clip-on tuners are small enough that you can just stash it in your guitar bag or case.
4. Capo
When you purchase a guitar, a capo is one of the things you have to buy alongside it. A lot of songs require you to transpose to raise the pitch of your string instrument. There are a lot of variations for this as well, but a clip capo is the easiest version to put on. Plus, you can just clip it on the headstock when not in use.
5. Guitar Stand/Mount
If you play often, then maybe it's a bit of a hassle to have to take it out of the bag every time, which is why you'd benefit greatly from a stand or a mount. Mounts are okay, but with the weight of an electric guitar, you might be better off with a stand. You should also opt for the ones that come with a neck holder to keep your instrument from falling over.

6. Amplifier
Unlike acoustic guitars, electric ones don't produce a lot of sound when you strum, which is why you need an amplifier to make them louder. You'll hear yourself play better and most are relatively small enough that you can carry them around. You can always skip this purchase as they can cost upwards of $100, depending on the brand, but they are worth it.
7. String Winder
A string winder is probably the most optional item on this list. You won't use it that often, but it's still a tool you'll be glad you have. It'll make changing strings significantly faster. It's so small that you won't even notice it in your guitar bag.
