Amazon Turns to AI Tools for Answering Shoppers' Questions

Amazon is launching new AI tools for its online shopping platform to answer users' questions, even the weirder ones.

The e-commerce giant said it is currently testing the new feature to respond to common inquiries about the items sold on the shop, CNBC reported.

Unlike ChatGPT, Amazon's AI tool cannot hold conversations or answer unrelated questions but will be able to reply to creative prompts.

According to The Verge, the AI can give customizable answers depending on the prompt given, such as asking it to see if a certain shoe will fit Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

It just will not answer questions that are outside the app and its products.

Prompting unrelated questions will result in the AI responding that it does not have the required information to answer.

Amazon Leans More on AI Use for its Shopping Platform

The shopping AI assistant is only the latest AI tool Amazon has added to its core platforms as Big Tech continues to fully embrace AI into 2024.

Amazon earlier launched AI-powered review summaries for its most popular products to "make it easier for customers to understand the common themes across reviews."

The tech giant is also experimenting with generative images for ads and third-party sellers.

The AI change is felt the most in its Amazon Web Services, where it is now offering customizable AI cloud service Bedrock.

The AMS is also now providing free scholarships to learn more about AIs and learning machines.

Amazon Pushes Further on the AI Trend

It comes as no surprise that Amazon is planning more for its AI product in the following months after reportedly spending billions of dollars training the technology.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy earlier told CNBC that the continuous development of AI will bring "a lot of societal good."

Elsewhere, Amazon has been cutting off workers in favor of its AI laborers, the biggest of which happened a year ago in January.
