Figure, BMW Develop Autonomous Humanoid Robots for Unsafe Repetitive Manufacturing Tasks

The California-based startup, Figure, collaborated with BMW and signed a commercial agreement to release autonomous humanoid robots to handle unsafe repetitive manufacturing tasks.

The humanoid robots will be operating autonomously to accomplish tasks that are difficult, unsafe, and dangerous for humans during manufacturing.

Figure Humanoid Robots Will Increase Productivity in BMW

Based on the agreement, Figure will be deploying the robots at BMW's manufacturing facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina. With the help of humanoid robots, it is expected that employees will focus on skills and processes that cannot be automated.

"Figure's robots will enable companies to increase productivity, reduce costs, and create a safer and more consistent environment," CEO and founder of Figure, Brett Adcock, stated.

Meanwhile, BMW explained that integrating innovative strategies such as automated humanoid robots is part of adapting to the fast-paced automotive industry.

"The use of general purpose robot solutions has the potential to make productivity more efficient, to support the growing demands of our consumers, and to enable our team to focus on the transformation ahead of us," CEO and president of BMW, Dr. Robert Engelhorn, shared.

Figure, BMW to Explore Advanced Technology Together

Aside from deploying humanoid robots, both companies have agreed to invest in exploring various advanced technology topics. This includes AI, robot control, robot integration, and manufacturing virtualization.

As for the first stage of the collaboration, Figure would have to identify the manufacturing processes that will require the help of the robots. Once this phase is completed, the robots will be deployed to their specific automotive tasks.

Figure is an AI robotics company that focuses on creating autonomous general-purpose humanoid robots that are designed to work under unsafe workloads.
