OpenAI announced that it is testing memory with ChatGPT, giving the AI system the capability to remember things that have been discussed without losing the user's control.
The company explained that users can explicitly instruct the chatbot to remember or forget a conversation.
Memory with ChatGPT is now available on select ChatGPT free and Plus users this week. Meanwhile, Enterprise and Team users will have access once it rolled out widely.

ChatGPT With Memory
ChatGPT has been a useful tool for many professionals and students around the world ever since it launched in 2022. However, there are instances that users receive repetitive information since the bot can forget the topic.
"Remembering things you discuss across all chats saves you from having to repeat information and makes future conversations more helpful," OpenAI explained.
Moreover, ChatGPT's memory are promised to improve the more it is used. Users will also notice the improvements overtime with similar prompts.
How ChatGPT With Memory Works
ChatGPT is widely used by organizations and workplaces and having a memory will save time once the bot remembers certain prompts. For instance, preferences on meeting notes' format would be remembered and every time the user requests for a meeting recap, the format is automatically implemented.
For Enterprise and Team users, OpenAI explained that ChatGPT can remember tone, voice, and other preferences. In addition, programmers could get help in streamlining the process by allowing the AI to remember the programming language and frameworks.
On the other hand, users are allowed to disable the feature. They can also select various information to be remembered or forgotten, depending on their preference.
"Memories and any other information on your workspace are excluded from training our models. Users have control on how and when their memories are used in chats," the company wrote.
Users can also try the temporary chat to have a conversation without using a memory and the data will not be used to train the models.
