Meta Confirms Facebook Chirping Sound a 'Technical Error': Here's How to Fix It

If you hear a chirping sound while scrolling through Facebook, it is not just you.

Stone said that Meta is already in the "process of fixing" the problem. The communication director did not provide further information on what caused the bug.

People first noted the error last week, reporting that the bug does not go away even when restarting the device. Many of the errors reported were from iPhone users.

As of writing, the problem is still present on some devices. The error is estimated to affect millions of users around the world.

How to Fix Facebook Chirping Sound Error

While Facebook is still trying to fix the sound error, there are some ways to temporarily remove the sound on your own.

One method is to turn off the in-app sound settings. This can be found by accessing the Settings and Privacy option on the Menu.

Open the Preferences and search for the In-App Sound settings under the Sounds.

It is worth noting that doing this will also turn off all other sound effects on Facebook, including clicking and popping sounds from post reactions, share buttons, and comments.

The audio for videos will still play out fine.

Just turn back the settings on again once Meta or Facebook announced that the error is fixed.

Meta Changes on Facebook

The error comes in as Meta has been rolling out several changes on Facebook.

Just two weeks ago, Meta removed the longtime third-party feature for Facebook Groups to place its soon-to-release in-house API.

Then there are also the new policies on using its built-in AI systems in preparation for the 2024 Election and the storm of disinformation that is expected to arrive.

Facebook has yet to provide a comment if any error was caused by the changes on the platform.
