Helldivers 2 Sees a Peak of 400,000 Players

You may have heard about the latest extraction shooter game released on both the PS5 and Steam due to all the noise it has made on social media. It has captured the interest of so many players to the point that it has reached the top five most popular games on the PC game platform.

Backed by Sony, the PC-available game reached its peak hours ago at 411,359 concurrent players within 24 hours, as per SteamDB Seeing as Helldivers 2 is not a free game compared to most that top the charts, this is certainly an achievement for the shooter title.

In the game, players will become part of a group of fighters who serve as the " Last Line of Offence" for the galaxy, fighting all sorts of enemies like bugs and cyborgs. It also helps that the minimum system requirements are that of a potato PC.

For the CPU, the players must have an Intel Core i7-4790K or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X, 8 GB RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 470. However, it does require 100 GB of space, which can be a lot for some users.

Despite its popularity, it has mixed reviews on Steam. Most of the issues stem from a black screen when players open the game, or that the servers can no longer support the increasing number of players.

By the time the game reached 155,000 players, the server could no longer accept more. It likely has something to do with the fact that there was an extra XP weekend event. According to Kotaku, the problem has already been fixed, given the number of concurrent players.

It is currently number one in top sellers, with over 80,700 positive reviews. The negative reviews are less than half of that with just more than 35,000. For a game that costs $40, it's safe to say that it's doing pretty well for itself, especially now that servers have a bigger capacity.

Palworld Still Dominates 2024

The monster-taming game that was dubbed the "Pokémon game with guns" still holds the all-time high record of concurrent players this year. Released on January 19th, 2024, it still has more than 430,000 concurrent players after a month.

Its all-time peak is all the more impressive at over 2.1 million players 24 days ago. It has a Very Positive rating on Steam with 224,110 reviews. According to Game Rant, Palworld has 19 million total copies sold worldwide.

Given its similarities with Pokémon, it has faced a lot of criticism and even the attention of Nintendo. Still, the game continues to be played by hundreds of thousands of players and the video game giant can't seem to find grounds for a lawsuit.
