OpenAI Works Closely With News Publications Globally

In a blog post, OpenAI COO Brad Lightcap shared that the company's mission is to support journalism and to integrate it with new AI technologies. "In partnership with Le Monde and Prisa Media, our goal is to enable ChatGPT users around the world to connect with the news in new ways that are interactive and insightful," he added.

Le Monde revealed that the deal marked the first multi-year agreement between a French media organization and a major AI company. Meanwhile, Prisa, a Spanish-language news provider, seeks to reach more individuals who are open to exploring independent content and technology.

Both companies's deals will also cover the training for the AI models developed by OpenAI, such as ChatGPT. The partnership of OpenAI and news publications is a symbol of the company's effort to provide factual and non-infringed content for its users.

OpenAI Avoids Copyright Infringement Through Licensing Deals

OpenAI had a tough 2023 and faced several copyright infringement suits from the New York Times and authors. Both companies are still pursuing the lawsuit.

On the other hand, some news outlets have started to strike a deal with OpenAI, further strengthening the company's training material for its AI models. "We are continually making improvements to ChatGPT and are supporting the essential role of the news industry in delivering real-time, authoritative information to users," the company promised.

Currently, the company has established deals with Axel Springer, the American Journalism Project, and The Associated Press, which are all used to contribute to developing AI tools.
