AI in Creative Writing: 5 Chatbots to Assist in Fictional Writing

AI chatbots have grown to the level that is already capable of assisting authors and novelists in creative writing.

While there is no replacing actual human authors in writing, improved technological assistance can make planning for the actual work much clearer and more defined.

It is worth noting that the list will not include assistant chatbots that supposedly generate stories for the users but rather those that only

It is also important to always remember to use AI in writing carefully to avoid plagiarizing or stealing licensed works.

Character.ai

Stumped for dialogues between characters? Character.ai could be a good way to simulate conversation with characters of similar traits and get inspiration from them.

The platform has thousands of chatbots, many of which are based on established stories, to see how a character with certain personalities would react to certain situations and lines.

Character.ai's conversations are especially good for non-formal fantasy writing. Outside of that, however, it is best to resort to established books and guides for proper methods.

Kobold AI

While Character.ai is often the normal choice in inspiring fan-fictions and AO3 stories, Kobold AI offers a more spicy alternative for those looking for a bit of romance and intensity.

Unlike other AI chatbot assistants, Kobold AI could help beginning authors think of not-safe-for-work scenarios without going through many loopholes to avoid the platform's anti-NSFW policies.

With this AI, writers could conjure their wildest fantasies to their pleasure and translate it into their actual works.

It is worth noting, however, that the AI generates lengthy and sometimes incomprehensible scenarios so it is better to just take the main points for writing.

Openroute.ai

If Kobold AI and Character.ai are not enough to provide inspiration, Openroute.ai has a multitude of large language models users can employ to simulate conversations by feeding the AI information about their character and world.

Truthfully, its LLMs are not much of an idea generator but rather just a fun way to interact with characters outside of the author's influence.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT, primarily GPT4, may have issues (at least a ton of them) but there is no denying that it is used by many fans in writing up scenarios for their favorite characters.

In the same way, authors can employ the chatbot either as a reminder tool on their story progress or summaries for past works as a reference to the information they provided to the AI.

And just like with other AIs, users are discouraged from actually using generated content from chatbots as it is because of possible copyright violations the text may contain and with the generated prose being bland and super descriptive.

Claude AI

Claude AI is virtually the same as ChatGPT in almost every sense with the exception that its creators claim their chatbot has fewer "AI hallucinations" than OpenAI's products.

It does not mean that the bot is a good idea source but rather as a medium to see how the story progresses on a general scale.

It means, however, that users will need to input as much information to the chatbot from their writing as they can to see the whole picture.
