FX, Hulu Announce Multi-Season Renewal for 'Shōgun'

FX and Hulu revealed that "Shōgun" will be back on streaming platforms for two more seasons after the production received its go signal.

"Shōgun" was produced by FX as a limited series and was initially planned to conclude after one season but the show received praise.

'Shōgun' to Continue Storytelling on FX, Hulu

The first season was meant to cover the whole story until the end of the book. Earlier this year, showrunner Justin Marks revealed that they tried to stick with the same ending with the book and wanted to put a period in the exact place.

However, FX and Hulu surprised fans with an announcement that they will continue working with the author James Clavell for the series. The renewal also revealed that the show will be extended for at least two more seasons.

The vagueness of the renewal sparks hope for fans as it could further extend to more seasons depending on what will happen on the creative side of the story. The positive feedback of the first season was also one of the factors why the show got renewed for more episodes.

'Shōgun' Impresses Fans, Streaming Platforms

"Shōgun" had an impressive run for its first season, which helped establish a huge success for the team. The show became FX's most-watched show during its nine weeks of premiering, beating "The Bear."

The story follows the story of Lord Yoshii Toranaga as he fights the Council of Regents. Lord Yoshii also met new characters like the English pilot John Blackthorne and Toda Mariko, a Christian noblewoman.

Marks will be joined by co-creator Rachel Kondo, and executive producer Michaela Clavell for the development of the new seasons. As of writing, the production timing is yet to be determined but reports showed that the writer's room will begin working this summer.

"Shōgun" is now available on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ in other regions with its first season consisting of 10 episodes.
