AT&T has officially announced that it is rolling out the Windows Phone 8.1 update to the Nokia Lumia 925 and the Lumia 520.
The carrier boasts that it is the first to bring Microsoft's latest mobile OS version to these two devices, adding a slew of neat features and enhancements.
"Hot on the heels of Microsoft Windows Phone 8.1 for the Nokia Lumia 635 and Nokia Lumia 1520, the software update is now available for AT&T customers with Nokia Lumia 925 and Nokia Lumia 520 smartphones," AT&T touts in a blog post on Thursday, July 31.
"The Windows Phone 8.1 update for the Nokia Lumia 925 and 520 brings you a personal smartphone experience that puts the people and things you really care about right at your fingertips. Great new features like Cortana, a personal virtual assistant built around you, is the only smartphone assistant who can set reminders by people, as well as by time or location. She can remind you to pick up your dry cleaning on the way home from work or remind you to text or call your grandma and wish her a happy birthday."
In addition to the much-touted Cortana virtual assistant, Windows Phone 8.1 also comes with plenty of other neat features to improve the general experience. Users will now be able to personalize their Live Tiles by choosing from multiple sizes, transparency, and color options, pin apps, music, and contacts to the start screen, and more.
The One Windows, meanwhile, will make use of OneDrive, Skype, Office, and Bing to reinvent the Windows experience on a variety of screens, whether it's for a phone, a tablet, a PC or an Xbox.
The latest version of Microsoft's mobile operating system also banks on efficiency, as Windows Phone 8.1 is optimized to boost productivity and help users achieve more with less effort. The new Word Flow Keyboard, Action Center for managing quick actions and notifications, as well as a new suite of device and data management tools are all ready to take things to the next level.
If you own a Nokia Lumia 925 or Lumia 520 on AT&T's network, all of the goodies Windows Phone 8.1 has to offer will soon be available for your device. The update is rolling out over the air (OTA), but you can also click the Settings Live Tile, tap Phone Update and see if it's available. If it's ready for your device, download the package and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Once you've gone through all steps and restarted your smartphone, you'll be able to enjoy the latest Windows Phone 8.1.
