Acer Chromebook 15 debuts with 15.6” display, Intel Core i3 processor ahead of CES 2015

Acer has announced a new Chrome OS device ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2015, introducing a new Chromebook with a large 15.6-inch display.

In fact, the new Acer Chromebook 15 is the very first Chrome OS laptop to boast a 15.6-inch display, as no other Chromebook comes in this size. Acer has so far been successful with its line of Chromebooks, and its latest offering is expected to be even more popular.

"The Acer Chromebook 15 is a true powerhouse - it provides fast mobile performance and a large display to help customers accomplish more every day," Jerry Kao, president of Acer Notebook Business Group, touted in the press release. "Acer has been a leader in the Chromebook market, from providing the latest in technology and trailblazing battery life to designing new form factors. We're driving the category forward again with the world's first 15.6-inch display Chromebook, the Acer Chromebook 15."

Chromebooks are browser-focused and typically don't offer that much in terms of specifications, but the new Acer Chromebook 15 should offer a more than decent performance in addition to a larger display, as it packs an Intel Core i3 processor under the hood.

The new Acer Chromebook 15 will be available in several configurations, with a base model starting at $250 and offering a 1366 x 768 resolution display, an Intel Celeron processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of SSD storage. Acer has yet to reveal prices for higher-end variants of its Chromebook 15, but a more powerful model will offer a full HD 1080p resolution, the aforementioned Intel i3 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of SSD storage.

All Chromebook 15 models come with the typical set of USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports, SD card reader, and a 15.6-inch display. Aver claims that its new Chromebook will deliver "impressive" performance in terms of battery life, but offers no specific details in this regards.

"The Acer Chromebook 15 delivers the performance today's consumers demand with several processor options based on Intel 5th Gen Core micro-architecture. The Chromebook 15 will be available with either a 5th Generation Intel Core i3 or next generation Intel Celeron processor to deliver fast performance and multi-tasking for apps and online games. The new state-of-the-art processor pairs with a solid state drive (SSD) for fast saving and accessing of data."

"Customers will be able to enjoy all-day productivity, fun and enjoyment; the Acer Chromebook 15 provides impressive battery life," adds the press release.

Lastly, the company notes that exact specifications, pricing, and availability for the new Acer Chromebook 15 will vary by region, but will start at $250 in the U.S. We'll keep you up to date as soon as more information becomes available.
