Bluesmart connected suitcase raises $2M in funding, aims to make travel easier

A Bluesmart connected suitcase aims to make lost luggage a thing of the past, and has already raised more than $2 million in funding.

Travelling can oftentimes be a hassle, but Bluesmart aims to make everything easier and more convenient. The connected suitcase can pair with your smartphone via Bluetooth, offering a number of neat features.

First of all, the suitcase comes with a built-in GPS, which ensures that users can locate their luggage no matter where they are. The Bluesmart suitcase further features weight sensors within the handle, allowing users to easily check whether their luggage is not overweight so it meets the standard international traveling requirements.

The Bluesmart connected suitcase first made its way to crowdsourcing site Indiegogo where it managed to raise over $1.3 million, far exceeding its initial $50,000 pledge. In fact, the company raised more than $2 million in total, from Indiegogo and other sources.

The suitcase itself comes with several compartments so travelers can easily store their clothes, laptop, devices, and other items they want to take with them. Moreover, the suitcase also packs a 10,000 mAh battery with two USB ports, allowing users to charge devices on the go.

"Bluesmart is a high-quality carry-in suitcase that you can control from your phone, like a boss. From the app you can lock and unlock it, weigh it, track its location, be notified if you are leaving it behind and find out more about your travel habits. You can also charge your phone 6 times over with a built-in battery," reads the project description on Indiegogo. "Isn't that awesome?"

The Bluesmart connected suitcase currently costs $280 on Indiegogo, which is roughly 40 percent off the estimated retail price when it hits commercial availability. It's worth pointing out that shipping costs will also add to that $280 price tag, which means that interested backers may end up paying a little extra depending on their location.

Customers who backed the Bluesmart suitcase on Indiegogo are expected to get their smart luggage sometime in August. At the same time, the suitcase is also available for pre-order from the company's website at this link. As for the refund policy, customers can cancel their order at any time before the product ships and receive a full refund.
